I've traditionally avoided the super turbo 6max type SNGs as they always seemed so high on luck that it was impossible to be +EV, especially at micro stakes where people will play for trolling fun. But the other week I gave them another go randomly and I found them easy! I was making the paid places consistently and quadrupled my (admittedly tiny) bank roll in the space of a week.

After taking a few days off from playing I just can't seem to get back into the rhythm! I've been on a losing streak ever since. Now my bank roll is half what it was when I was at the peak.

Partly it feels like I have run into the worst spell of bad luck ever. I wince every time the river comes up because it will inevitably kill my favourite to win hand stone dead. And I've been knocked out by some pretty atrocious hands that somehow beat me. But partly I just feel like I am sucking a bit at the moment.

I read a lot about pros going on good spells where they seem to win everything, and bad spells where nothing goes there way. Am I just experiencing that?

I guess I'm just curious why I went from crushing to sucking.

I realise there is not much specific information here, so I'm just after general discussion of whether this is part of the "variance" and I should get used to it. Or whether such a drastic change in fortune from one week to the next suggests some bigger problem.

This is variance, most likely, unless you've consciously changed your game.

While you might be right, it felt different from luck just going my way. Instead it felt like I could see everything clearly. Like I could always spot the perfect moment to make a move when no one would be able to call. Know the exact time the others are making moves with weak cards. It's like I had a 6th sense that lasted a week and then left.

Or, you were mostly right for a while which made you feel like a genius, but when you hit the other side of variance and were wrong more often it felt like you lost your touch...

Hyper turbo's have huge swings. I doubt if you realise how big they can be

You didnt make a post "Im winning!" but you made a post "Im losing!" results oreinted thinking imo.

Possibly the days and times of the week that you were playing. Different crowd at different hours.

Can someone just sticky a thread called "omg guiz I won a bit and then I lost loads" and OP just explains variance and that you are most likely bad at poker too.

Would save about 500 threads being made a day.

Also thinking something is impossible to be +EV (and 6max hypers are easily +EV, especially low level ones) and then playing them is incredibly stupid. Your argument that playing 6max hypers against "people trolling" makes them less EV than people playing properly also made me lol.

When you win its because of the cards, don't let your ego convince you otherwise. Either you have a hand or when you bluff the villain doesn't.

When this happens more often than it mathematically should over a sample that's caused positive variance.

So after leaving it a few days and then returning back to the game I found myself easily able to make the cash places on a consistent basis again. And it didn't feel like good luck, it felt like I was making the right plays in the right spots.

So I begin to think that my problem last week was just bad luck leading to tilt, and tilt leading to chasing pots rather than making the right plays.

This is why I turned to to here for advice. Because I could sense that I was letting myself getting tilted and I wanted some advice on how to stop it. Or just general talk of how to cope with being on a losing streak.
