a whale is a very bad player with a very big bankroll. not sure that there is really a seperate category in HEM tho. whales look like fish stat-wise (36/4, 48/10, etc), they just have lots of money to lose. whales are your best friends

The HEM icon is basically a fishier fish.

The standard HEM settings for 6max NLHE set this for a player that has VPIP > 70 over 20 hands, or VPIP > 50 over 100+ hands.

Ok so they play ALOT of hands.
So the dice(gambler) plays loose but not too loose and isn't too aggressive preflop but c bets and 3bets alot and showsdown too much. is that about right?

A whale is a really big fish.

It's a simple analogy really. Of course, real whales are not really fish (but mammals), but that's OK, because a poker whale is not a fish either (but a mammal).

The sad thing is that this was at a 10FLH and he bought in for 2. Could not lose, I've never seen anything like it and hopefully never will again. Good thing is he eventually gave me some and left with less than his BI.

whales are guys who play a limit & is down a lifetime of 100+ buy ins & plays for enjoyment

a few guys ive ran across at the 25 & 50nl levels are down 25-50k and its amusing to lose that much at that limit... so yes that is a whale!!
