I'd say keep your focus, and stick to your cash games. You know what suits you. Decisiveness is a virtue.

thanks, i have a pretty big problem with knowing the right answer and then actually following through with it. (this carries through to poker, i'm a station, don't bluff me and get paid all day long)

In my experience I gained more insight in 6 weeks of micro cash games than I did in 6 months of turbo SnG's.

First- Thanks

Second- Do you really think that if good SNG player moves to cash games after he rolled a good amount of money , cant beat 100NL? Is it so important to start from micro stakes ?

I ask this question because I started now with 300$ and want to play cash.

I can play 10NL with this roll but don't have much experience in cash games. Is there a lot of difference between 2NL 5NL and 10NL?

Thanks again and sorry for the bad English .

Why not mixing it up?
I like the competive factor of SNG's espacially 45 -90 man's cause there are really awfull players in the early stages.
Its certainly easier then cash games.
Is there any problem in playing a SNG and then 2 hours cash making a short pause and playing again sng? It helps to not get bored. I mean is it possible to mess up your game this way?

^^^ I don't see the issue with playing both in the same day, as long as it's not at the same time. I don't see the danger in SNG plays bleeding over to cash, or vice versa. I've certainly never called a raise with 33 at the 50-100 level of a SNG 'cause "whoops, forgot I'm not 100bb deep". And I agree that it can get boring only sticking to one game type. The only drawback is that it might limit your growth and improvement as a poker player. Playing different games, when you study away from the table you're going to have to divide your time between the different games you play. If you're willing to accept this trade-off, I see nothing wrong with mixing up your games.

Great thread for a "starting" 2+2er.

Basically answers all my questions on the "cash" or not issue.
I´ve been an SnG player mostly (or MTT), but the boredom of the SnG route regularly gets to me.
Cash is "scary" to me, SnG feels "safe".

I guess I will have to step up and try the cash route, if only to improve the different aspects of my game and keep it interesting.

The "mixing it up" posts are what I needed to know.

Thanks for the tips on all these issues.

right now i'm trying to learn, but it seems the cheapest SnG's @ lock poker (.11$) is not the place to learn....people all-in 75% of the hands pre-flop, and generally they will double or triple their stack in literally 5 hands...i don't know what to do >.>

sometimes i have beaten people from me having the short stack but if they place aggressive i generally lose.

Any time your opponents are repeatedly putting you in a spot where you're not sure what to do, you've found yourself a learning opportunity.

All you got to do is work out a profitable calling range. (Maybe not a trivial exercise, but pretty useful, I'd say.)

Welcome to the Forums.

Yeah for the most part and I think I'm improving my play already, but I've been playing at .02/.04 tables and I think I enjoy that environment better. Players don't tend to all-in pre-flop every 3 hands, when I do those SnG's whenever a few of the players get a face card they just shove it.

I never ever considered whether I should start with SNGs or Cash. The first book I read was Harrington on Online Cash Games...

One transition difficulty I have had from Cash to SNGs is that I go from 6 man tables to 9 man tables and I have a hard time differentiating the players (anonymous on Bovada). With 6 max games and 6 man SNGs I'm able to narrow players to a type and remember their past actions. With a 9 man table everyone seems to blur together and I end up nut peddling. Has anyone else had this experience?

I realized I approach SNGs differently in this way when I recently tried playing a 6man SNG. Then another and another. Certainly I have run well at times, but I imagine that I'm approaching the game differently as well. Knock on wood - I've cashed in 10 out of 10.

Another question. In what ways do SNGs prepare one for MTTs?

Could anyone recommend a good thread for progressing from SNGs to MTTs (or Cash to MTTs)?

Great thread guys and gals. There are a lot of perceptive comments in here.

I agree, as a beginner also trying cheap SnG's on PokerStars I feel like I'm wasting my time playing them because everyone all-in's right at the start before the flop.
Do people do this crap with real money or higher fee SnG?

I think it's a cheesy tactic and the only way I find I can deal with it is going all in with them before the flop and hoping I win.

I had more serious games playing Micro NLHE cash games but the SnG would be more fun for me if it wasn't for the ridiculous pre-flop all-in's.

I am still undecided if I want to play Cash or SNG

Why are you complaining about that? You should be happy when people play bad unless you like to lose idk

If you get frustrated when villains play poorly, maybe this is not the game for you. A common amateur mistake is people feeling like if their opponents played better they would win more. This is not the case. Tougher games = lower winrate. Enjoy how soft they are or move up a couple levels.

I play those cheap SNG's and I agree that there are many all-ins in the early stage but I don't see what is the problem with that. Most of these players who double or triple up in the early stage don't make it to the final table. These SnG's are very easy to beat, I think that as a beginner, you are the one who should adjust your tactic and let the fish be fish.

Didn't say I was losing, it just makes the game unplayable for the first hour of non-stop folding other wise I just all-in pre flop with 7-2 like everyone else and tripple up early, risking it all.
I rather play Poker instead of Bingo.

I noticed playing a lot of SnG's like this caused me to start making stupid mistakes out of bad habits that I would not have ever done playing a serious game.
I'm pretty sure playing with bads is making me worse actually and I only learned how to play poker 5 days ago.

I do better in micro cash games where people are smarter but more predictable.
Even the smallest cash game's Iv'es played I haven't seen anyone do the ****ty all-in preflop tactic.

I'll stick with cash games for now.

Sorry for the stupid question, but how do you adjust to 3+ people pre-flop all-in's besides folding for an hour or two till they all fall out, or going all-in with them?

I haven't experienced that at all while playing micro SnG's on Stars. Weird.

I'm a little confused, are you playing with real money or play money?

My case is I prefer SNGs but I make a point of crushing CG micros to improve my fishy game. I will try multitabling to feel less bored when playing CG.

You don't need to fold for an hour or two, if you play tight and aggressive in the early stage, all you need to do is to wait for a good opportunity to double up . If you haven't learned your starting hands yet, do it asap.
