How long would you give a game a chance after you first sit down before thinking it's a lousy game and requesting a table change?

As little as 2 orbits ... even less if you have some history with the players. Another immediate factor can be the stack sizes. If they are too small (or too big) for you style of play then let the Floor you want to move on. GL

When realizing it's a preflops foldfest, right away I'd be requesting a table change.
