I'm starting a coaching for profits with a person(who I think I can trust),and I won't have to sign any contracts, but this person is asking me for a picture of my passport and said this is a standard procedure,is it safe for me to send my passport pic on this occasion?

that you won't have to sign any contracts doesn't mean you don't have a contract with him

Any UK commercial enterprise asking for that level of personal ID must have a Data Protection Licence and a Data Protection Officer (DPO), and any request for said data must be accompanied by a data protection policy statement (which can be verified via the ICO). If they don't do the above they are straight up in violation of the UK Data Protection Act. No idea if the dudes you are talking about are covered by that sort of jurisdiction but anyway, anyone who sends a photo of their passport ID page to an unregulated organisation/person is to dumb to own a computer let alone play poker.

Hope that is clear enough.

Spoiler:
I am a UK limited company DPO and FCA approved person...I deal with ID stuff every day

Tell us a bit more about this "coaching" proposition. Why did they say they needed your picture if there is no contract and you aren't being hired by them?

When making a copy of your id / passport, write/photoshop text on it including the date of copy and the goal of the copy, ie: "AUGUST 14 2017 - COPY FOR POKER COACHING".

Makes it a lot harder for the receiving end to use it for id theft / other malicious intent.
