This forum is a poker school, use it as much as you can before you go around paying people.

That's because the answers are hidden in your mind. You can either pay someone to teach you, or you can teach yourself. You choose.

I agree with this. I've never paid a dime for poker coaching, but I've put in a bunch of hours being wrong on the net.

There are poker coaching sites where you can watch videos made by the pro(s) or participate in webinars. I subscribe to one that only costs $10 a month. There are lot of books and videos on specific topics, for example, how to play suited connectors, or in what situations you should bluff. As we say on these forums, "Google is your friend." There is a lot of free information out there.

When I first started I didn't have a lot of money to spend, so I got poker books from the library. I told friends and relatives that the only presents that I wanted for Christmas or my birthday was poker books.

I know it's late for a bump but I ran across this thread again and it occurred to me that there are actual classes you could take that would help you with poker. So for you and anyone esle wondering about this:

First, there are various levels and costs of poker coaching available. I pay $10 a month for floattheturn.com. That allows me to watch videos on various poker topics, and also the chance to ask the pro a question on a webinar. There are also online classroom situations where a pro teaches players, which costs more than just watching the videos.

Annother option might be to actually go to school. There are a lot of classes that might be applicable to poker: statistics, game theory and combinatorics are three that I can think of offhand. You can do a lot of this free online using the online Kahn Academy, or watching a free video of a game theory class taught at Harvard or Yale.

There are YouTube videos on things like how to play suited connectors. Pay coaching sites have a lot of free things that you can read or download.

Here are some samples of what's available:

realize other players playing the game are your clients. your job is to entertain them. You ain't coming from the competitive plane.

You want others to enjoy watching you play. You want others to enjoy playing in the same game as you. Its all about service.

Cultivate gratitude. when your AA loses to another players KQ its a blessing. it gives you a chance to go back and study and get better. once you get better other players will start to play better and the game gets more interesting for both parties.
