Thoughts on this line with an overpair? Thanks!
Spoiler:
Villain calls and shows 6s-6c for flopped set. River is a blank and I bust. Suggestions? Was a turn check the better play to limit the size of the pot? Or am I just going broke in these situations almost always at these stack depths? Should I have grown suspicious when villain called the flop c-bet? The two spades on the flop threw me off somewhat. I figured him for a possible flush draw or top pair.
With 15bb, there was no way you were avoiding getting it all in with AA. There is no reasonable line that you can take here that protects you without leaving too much value on the table. Over pair versus sets are a pretty common way for medium stacks to be eliminated
I have adopted a line, though, with over pairs and TPTK, against strong opponents, when deep stacked, where I will typically bet 2/3 pot to pot size on the flop (depending on board texture), check back the turn, and then bet the river if it the board is still dry, or check it back if it is wet. A single pair is not really a strong hand, and is not worth playing for stacks if your stack is larger than 20 or 30 bb.
Also, be very wary if a decent player flat calls your flop bet on a dry board. Sometimes they are drawing with middle or bottom pair, but often they made two pair or a set.
