Hey Everyone, I've been playing poker for a couple years now. I have been playing pretty low stakes (0.1/0.2) and I have trying to balance my range right now but it seems like a waste of time in these low stake games. I feel like no one knows what there doing and its frustrating because I am trying to improve in poker, now my question is are the stakes im playing at a good representation of what poker is or what poker will be?

Whatever you do, don't decide you're going to move up to where they respect your game.

You're trying to jump up to quickly. At 20 nl, you should have a bankroll of around $400. When you double that, then you've shown you mastered that level and can move up. Eventually, you'll get to needing to balance your range. Don't worry about doing it now.

kk thanks man, I was honestly thinking of moving up too, Ill just work on building up my bankroll first. What things do you think i should work on now then, that will help me in higher stakes?

Just work on beating the lower stakes. When you eventually move up, don't change your game. You'll mostly be able to beat the higher stakes too, but not as effectively. Then you can start looking at tweaking your game.

You're correct, there are a ton of strategies that you will need to learn/practice at higher stakes but are ineffective at the bottom of the barrel. Just play straight forward as possible at 2NL, they won't pay attention to you trying to balance your range and honestly I would play pretty exploitative abc poker. When you do decide to move up make sure you're properly BR'd for it and then you can practice other concepts and strategy's.

anytime you change your game to not give off info then you also give up some of your edge. so cont be too quick to adjust from the most advantageous play.

What are you goals? To be an online grinder or move to live and move up the stakes?
If it's to switch to live, IMO 5c/10c online is pretty similar to 1/2 live and 10c/25c or 25c/50c is similar to 2/5 live. 10nl players and 1/2 players generally suck and basic tight aggressive ABC styles will win.

Have you been tracking wins/losses/ BB/100? If you are consistently winning over a good sample size (20K+ hands) then there is no reason not to move up unless you aren't rolled for it. Going off the standard bankroll management, 30 BIs is what you should have to move up. So $150 for NL5. There's no shame in depositing another $20 and taking a 4 BI shot at a higher stake to see how tough/soft it is. Good luck!
