Yes, this is normal. Always amusing to see people surprised about it because it looks really small doesn't it? People will think "Oh, I will lose only 5% of my winnings, I can take that." While in reality, it's more like, without rake the actual amount of pots you take down is like 460, but you also lose 370 in the process, so rakes takes away ~20 of your ~90 net sum which is more like a quarter. Now imagine, if, say, at 25NL, you win 11K and lose 10K for a nice little "profit" of 1K... you lose half of it to rake.

Thats absolutely ridiculous, I had no idea it was that much! And thats at 2NL, where the pot reaches $1 only like 10% of the time!!!!

At 2NL, people don't fold. The majority of your winnings comes from huge pots where you have a monster and your opponent has a little something and calls down three streets with it, resulting in a pot over $1.

It's pretty easy to make money in the micros even with the higher rake. As you move up in levels the rake gets less because it is usually capped.

Re: ***** Official Dumb Questions Thread ****

How about this:

6 max vs. fullring games.....NL Micros

1) What is the difference other then the obvious?

2) Why do players chose one over the other as a preference?

3) Which is more popular and why?

4) What types of skills is necessary to play both well?

5) Which is more suited to beginners?

how to selectively show winning hands at PokerStars

Not sure if it;s a dumb question, but have no idea were to post it so please help if you can:

At PokerStars, I have "Don't Show Winning Hand" option turned on in GUI Options.

Sometimes, it is really helpful to show a winning hand to opponents right after it had been played.

Going to GUI Options and switching the option in question is very slow, so I don't manage to really show hand before it goes off the table.

The question is: is there any way to speed up the process? Any hotkeys or tricks?

Please advise.

Sincerely,

Dmitry

There's not really a way to speed it up. You either have the option every hand or not. Personally I don't think you should ever show, but that's just me.

Re: ***** Official Dumb Questions Thread ****

I was involved in a verbal banter as many people could say they have been with another player on full tilt poker, and the occasional "f bombs" were dropped here and there to one another but then the other player made remarks such as "hope your family dies in a car crash" .... If I reported this to FTP what is the most that would happen ? Would they just ban his chat for ever or anything more ?

They will most likely just ban his chat unless he's making direct and specific comments that threaten to do you physical harm. Shoot them an email and ask them.

PT have announced they'll issue PT3 for Mac after the windows versions (HE, Omaha and Stud) are finalized and stabilized enough. Figure a fall release. Meantime Intel-based Macs can run it in windows (one purchase is good for two computers, so you wouldn't need a second license).
