Have you read anything about ICM?
In early stages ICM is a non factor so play like a cash game. Getting in 166bb with KK is good.
In later stages ICM/payout structure matters a lot and there's no answer to the general question "Should I push 60/40 edges?". Post specific hands in MTT forum.
That said you're almost always happy to fist pump get in aces pre at any stage, but consider this very specific scenario:
You're playing a satellite, 11 left. Tournament ends at last 10 and those people all get the same payment (seat in the big event). If there's 5 shorties and you're second in chips. You absolutely should not get aces in vs the chip leader because you effectively have a lock to make the final 10 and just have to wait for other players to bust.

tldr: Question too general, study ICM.

I assume the new deck is sorted per manufacturer....maybe it is set.... but you have the basics. In order, in suits. Yes.

Dealers are taught a specific way to shuffle and each dealer does his/her besty to do as taught. There are always slight variations of course. A dealer can not exactly cut 26/26 to shuffle every time.....nor probably even half the time.

How exactly does an ante-only tournament work? Where do people play these? Why? How different is strategy for them?
***** Official Dumb Questions Thread **** Quote

1) there are only antes
2) on sites that offer them
3) because they find them more fun/profitable
4) if the amount taken out pre is the same in relation to the betting structure, it shouldn't change that much

There are a lot of gimmicks with tournaments lately, antes only is just one of them. When I first started playing on PokerStars I don't think that there were bounty tournaments yet, STTs didn't have antes and turbos were not nearly as popular as they are now.

I think that a lot of players get bored doing the same thing all the time, They need to change it up with different variants or structures, mixed games, or whatever keeps them amused. I'm happy just playing old-fashioned freezouts and STTs, but that's me. I just want to make money, I don't need to be entertained with the next big thing. Whatever you play, you can analyze a tournament and see if it works for you.

I will skip tournaments for a lot of reasons, for example: I don't like turbos, the prize pool is too small, the structure is too fast, or the bounties take too much out of the general prize pool.

I will sometimes break down/analyze/list tournaments on an Open Office page so that I know what's running the rest of the week and I can look ahead to see which tournaments fit with my goals, bankroll and schedule for that day.

I have not played an ante-only tournament, but I would do the same thing with that type of tournament as I would with any other type. I would do something like finding out my starting stack, then seeing what percentage of my starting stack the ante would be at levels 1, 5, 10 and 20. Those percentages will give you an idea of how fast the structure is and whether it works for you. Compare that with a tournament that has blinds and decide which works better for your situation.

In the tournament sections of the forum, where they are separated by stakes, why exactly do rebuy tournaments have a lower threshhold? For example high stakes might be $100+ or $50 rebuy+.

You don't see how a $3r might play at a higher level than a $3fo?

Ahaaa, rebuy vs re-entry. I think that re-entry would play at the level of the buy-in but rebuy would play at ~2x, yes? Did I figure it out?

And I could see re-entry upping the skill level live with amateurs more likely to quit after one bullet, but given the large number of tournaments available online it seems like it would not affect online play as much.

When you cooler someone on the river in a big pot all-in situation and the guy is steaming, is there a need to make a comment to try to cool things over or is it just better to let there be awkward silence?

There's no need, but if it's a nice person then sometimes I will say something like 'eh, nothing you can do' or I make a visible shrug. Can also shake their hand and say sorry. Some people won't take it well - obviously don't do it for them. Nothing wrong with sitting in silence and stacking your chips if that's what you want to do.

Haha yeah the wrong person might get more mad if you say something nice. Defs depends on the person if he's a super unbalanced angry dude I would sit in awkward silence

I agree with this. Consider it an extension of not talking during a hand. Don't talk about the hand either. It's too easy to give away something about how you look at poker. I made that mistake once, without saying a word.

I was new to live poker and I didn't have the table mechanics down yet. I was used to seeing numbers on a monitor and I couldn't keep track of the bets and the pot size, so I was always scanning to see how big the pot and player stack sizes were. During one hand, a player said, "You're a math guy aren't you?"

Try to never do anything to give away what you're thinking or doing at the table.

Awkward silence, except it shouldn't be awkward, you're busy stacking your chips and cheering inside. My experience of steamers is that it's likely they will be annoyed about anything anyone says at that moment. Focus elsewhere and let them calm down. Decent people will remember it's just poker and get over it in a few minutes.

Eggs predate chickens by many millions of years, probably 100s of millions.

As an NL reg on stars, why do the ante tables seem much softer than non-ante tables?
