That's a pretty big and complicated question, probably beyond the scope of this thread. Maybe somebody can come up with some good links to threads about LAGs?

Basically the jist of it is:

- Wait for a hand and smack him
- Push back at him regardless and try to win the game of chicken
- Position, position, position

Can someone please tell me what players are referring to when they label an opponent as a "monkey". I'm guessing it means that they're just there to gamble, but not really sure. Thanks...

Re: ***** Official Dumb Questions Thread ****

I'm a chronic shortstack, and it's getting really frustrating because the games last so long. Almost seems like I'm wasting my time waiting for that one coin flip. Which in the end won't really help because I'm so far behind. Tho there are times you hit the ending rush.

I can't seem to find a good balance. When I see more flops I usually get into trouble and bust out early. I flop top pair, somebody makes 2 pair. I hit a set, somebody hits a flush. I flop two pair, I lose to a straight.

Any good advice for somehow finding a balance between being aggressive, and being overly patient and tight?

Yeah, it's called learning poker

Seriously, that's way too broad a question.
But a good start is to read all the stickies in this forum, it should get you going.

No, its doesnt matter if you multi-table as long as you have 20-30 buy-ins in your bankroll you alright.

You might want more than 20-30 buy-ins if you're playing 20 tables at once. You'll definitely need at least 40 buy-ins to play 40 tables. DUCY?

I have a really dumb question: when people say 10NL or 5NL or 50NL, what stakes do they mean?

10nl = .05/.10 blinds no-limit ($10 buyin)
50nl = .25/.50 blinds no-limit ($50 buyin)
5nl = .02/.05 blinds no-limit (sometimes $5 buyin, sometimes $10)

Re: ***** Official Dumb Questions Thread ****

Is it a dumb move to "check" when I land a huge hand on the flop such as a flush or a straight? I "check" in hopes of making the others catch up so they could place their bet, while I raise. Or would it be smarter to throw in a small bet?

I really need help on betting when the community cards are thrown down! Hopefully someone can answer me or direct me to a post in which this has been answered.

Thanks!

BTW, I made a good 13 dollars in an .01/.02 NL game last night (in about 30min). I guess I found the table with the most "fish"?

This is a question that really can't be answered, as it's way too general. A lot depends on what villian(s) will do, along with all the other variables that should affect your decisions. Consider what you want to accomplish and then take the line that will accomplish your goal. If villian is a calling station, bet. If villian is a maniac, check. Don't approach the game with a cookbook mentality, however at 2nl it's not a terrible thing to go ahead and bet for value regardless until you get a handle on post flop play.

Re: ***** Official Dumb Questions Thread ****

Thanks for the answers guys!

I guess I've been doing it too much and I should start watching my opponents more closely. I do love doing it though! That's why I'm a beginner I guess .

Thanks again!

Yeah, slowplaying is like throwing the long bomb in football. When it works out, it makes the highlight reel but it's not a play you can rely on all that often so most teams concentrate on pounding the ball up the middle and making short, high percentage passing plays. Consistency and winning games is much more important than getting replayed on SportsCenter.
