This is, however, purly mathematical and doesnt take tilt in to concideration.

Its somewhat clear you have a negative approach to poker (Also known as being weak-tight. Congratz, you have been diagnosed with: Monsters under the bed syndrom - we've all had it, and once you get rid of it you can start thinking clearly about ranges and thinking along the lines "Okay, if villian calls, I expect him to be behind 55% of the time thus a bet is +ev" and not "Ohh, he could have suckedout on me - so ill check the river just incase")

its all well and good to minimize losses if your behind... but you gotta maximise winnings when ahead! - This is minmax... currently it seems all your doing is minimising losses because your terrified of loosing - so your not effectivly maximise winnings.

Go away and play 100k hands of online poker... The cooler in your example will become standard very quickly. Especially after your first real downswing - which will crush your sole

Re: Odds of having the "Nuts"

Imo stop calling bad players, bad players. When infact your a horribad player, Doing this will put you in the "donk" category, which imo your better of just being a clueless fish instead of a losing player who thinks his amazing. if you dont like the luck factor go play chess, just dont be abusing/scaring fish away from the game when your AA get cracked by J10s.

goodday sir.

OP - if they don't call you with worse hands, you will never win any money. You *always* want a worse hand to call you. Every time.

It only seems that way.

He's an uber-nit. So when he gets to showdown he always has it.

What you're not seeing is the ton of value he's folding away because, wow, I don't have the nuts and some dude just bet into me, get these cards away from me dealer, I'm going to wait for a better spot. (Kind of thing.)

Re: Odds of having the "Nuts"

If you want to win everytime your opponent makes a mistake, quit poker and pick up chess. You DON'T want to bet to keep your opponent from trying to outdraw you. In fact you want your opponent to TRY and outdraw you (you of course don't want them to succeed, and you don't want to pay them off when they do, but you want to bet as much as they are willing to call.

When you have the best hand you want opponents to call!! Not fold!! Trying to get a worse hand to fold is the worst play you can make. Yes, this means that your top set will lose to a flush every so often, sometimes it may seem like it happens over and over again and there's nothing you can do about it... but that's poker.

All you can do is keep getting you money in good and you'll be a winner in the long run. But don't try to get worse hands to fold... Even if it works, you won't get enough value out of your big hands to be a profitable player. Yes, this means you will lose more pots, but you will win more money.

Hating the 20% bad enough to deliberately forego the 80% definitely means poker isn't the game for you. You have to even love the 55% winners, not just the 80% winners.

Take up chess.

Thread is super-old, guys, and I think we've well and truly established that OP is wrong.
