If you started playing 1-2 live with a 60 dollar bankroll it's a good indication you were indeed a fish on a heater.

You do that sir, you'll see it will be much better when you come back with a "poker mindset" rather than a short term result orientation mindset.

OK. This is the beginner's forum, out and out trolling isn't allowed here. That isn't to say that you won't get hard advice you won't like, or that people may not have a little fun.

Posting bad beat stories about how the fish always suck out on you isn't allowed here either.

Posting questions about situations that have arisen will help you the most.

Also, you should probably buy-in full so you can gain the most value when you hit a monster.

But as everyone else said take a break, get yourself together then hit the tables again.

Re: newbie getting cocky?

I have never heard of a casino letting someone buy into a 1/2 game for only 60 bucks....

And I have played in some shady Indian casinos before.

Re: newbie getting cocky?

min buy in for 1-2 is 50 dollars. and i said total play time. i built it up by doubling up and going home for a couple times

I only went with $60 because i wanted to see what live games were like. And since i liked it i decided to go back but this is how it went down.

first i bought in for 60/ doubled that and went home, then 70/ doubled that, next day 100 doubled that,
then i had a really good night where i cashed out for over a grand,
lost some buy ins, then after that and then cashed out for 800 the next night and now ive lost about $500 total

and before i get more negative comments, the reason why my money doesn't add up is poor bankroll management, i used some of the money to pay car insurance, gas on a 22 gallon tank, cartons of cigarettes and other random ****.

I'm not looking to become a grinder or play pro I enjoy poker and just want to make my game better!

My mate who is the same age as me (20) we play together all the time at live home games, he doesnt understand anything about poker and is a super spewtard. We somehow got into a convo about how i turned $80 into $600, grinding 2nl,5nl and 10nl taking about 150k hands and 3 months playing every single day and using this amazing forum. He laughed saying what a waste of time and deposited $80 dollars and went on a sick heater and kept moving up stakes in cash games (buying in for half amounts and doubling up and moving up again) and ended up up 2k in about 4hours of playing, he cashed out and bragged about how he outplayed nanonoko (i had to point out who he was playing with) he deposited $200 and went on another sick heater and turned it into 5k and then blew it all at 25/50. he then went on a massive tilt session and reached his deposit limit for the day. I told him what his doing wrong and what he needs to do but he is the poker god and now sits and plays highstakes hyper-turbo's :/ this all happened in about a 10 day period.

so the moral of the story is, you suck. your not a poker god, drop down in stakes and learn the game or you will become like this.
This is just unfair I guess, but I suppose the justice arrived and hes now busto

Re: newbie getting cocky?

well i went to big beaver today for a $30 dollar buy in and made it to the final 3 where we decided to split out of 60 people , so i guess i just freaked out over a short loosing streak. Not sure maybe just a fish with potential! all the finalists told me i played good, so idk maybe i just got headstrong and cash games in a new casino freaked me out!

Re: newbie getting cocky?

Looking at your 'bad beats" stories, it looks like you don't have the best reading abilities and that may be something you need to work on. Try getting a job and buying in for full at 1/2.

Re: newbie getting cocky?

TBH you probably just got lucky and won a bunch, and now you are just playing badly. From what you said, you are playing loose passive. Probably playing junky hands then folding the flop when you miss. Don't get in bad habits just because you won a bunch of money! Keep reading and learning. When you make each decision in a hand, you should be able to have REASONS in your mind for each decision.

Example,

"I have AJo in middle position, okay, I will raise to pick up the dead money from the limpers and if I am called I am likely to have the best hand anyway quite often"

"Oh the flop is Jxx with 2 diamonds, I have TPTK, I will value bet 2/3 pot to get money from weaker jacks and flush draws"

"The turn is a brick, I am going to value bet again"

"The river is a King and the draws missed, I am going to check/call because a weaker Jack might fold to a bet and draws might bluff if I check".

Something along those lines.

Re: newbie getting cocky?

Everyone tilts. Thinking that you do not is a mistake.. Being able to realize that you are going on tilt and stop playing when you are not playing your best, will save you lots of money.
