Smile live to online

hi guys, im 25 years old, i been playing poker a lil bit more than a year, most live 1-2and 2-5, been playing online for about 1 month so far, and when i play live, no matter at the casino or the house games, i could say generally i crush the game, my winrate is pretty high and last year alone i've problly won 25K playing live 1-2 and 2-5 part time. but i found online is a lot harder where im not as
comfortable as i would play live, and i understand that online player is generally better than the live guys. what my point is my focus is gonna to be playing online most of time from now since thats where all the new stra coming from and i can do alot of volume unlike playing life, ive got myself a pretty good set up such as a 25in monitor and a dencent PC ect, i just need some advice on how should i aproach online games when i used to play so much live and im really kinda break even ish or slightly winning on stars' 10-25nl now, how long should i be expecting to be a winning player online if i put in like 40 hours a week of playing and studying online. any kinda of suggestion would be aprecciated

start small and see what you can do without it affecting your game.

I would say start with a limit a lot smaller than the ones you play live.
play maybe 2 tables for a few hours a day and work off that, if you invest iin some software like Poker tracker for instance, you can track everything about your game.
When you feel your good enough then open another tables and add a couple of hours onto it.

I like to set goals
so many hands per week/month
Nothing silly of course.

and I think ITs good to always throw an extra hour in per session for forums etc. post any odd hands etc and learn from the feedback.

after every week/month I will evaluate everything about my play and go from there.

I hope that helps a little.

I agree with smaller stakes, weekly/monthly goals, and multi table. Very solid advice. Add on that you will need to open your range and play more aggressive in spots you feel like you normally wouldn't. When I played online I loved sit and go's. There is a lot of easy money in those and some sites offer pretty solid tourneys. Example being that cake poker has double up tourneys from like 5 and up. So last 5 people if the 10 entrants double there buy in! Very easy to play in

Re: live to online

Drop down to 1/10 of whatever live stake you are competent at. That's how huge the skill/stake difference is. If you can beat live 1/2 you'll be doing good to beat online .10/.25 and you might need to go down more at first.

There are many reasons for this explained elsewhere on the forum.

Re: live to online

Firstly eat every thread you can on stats and the levels you expect to play in the forums. Make sure what you are playing is comfortable for your available roll. A major mistake for people shifting to online is playing their live stakes as online stakes.

Get HEM2 or PT3 and get to know your hud and what your statistics mean in terms of how to adjust your play to be more profitable.

Start on your intended stake that you have worked out with one or two tables for the first 500 or so hands and if you are comfortable with the pace add a couple more. I just got back to the grind this week and im comfortable with turning 2k hands a day on 4 tables and looking at moving up to 6 tabling 3k hands by next week if my green line is on the up. If its not im sticking at 4 tables until it is.

Make sure to review sessions for leaks. Do a full leak review at least once a week with mini review after each session. Do not take a session as a sole indicator of performance. Variance over a session sample can look horrendous especially while adjusting to online. After 10k hands you can get some idea of patterns emerging and make some adjustment but depending on how quick you adjust to your level you may not see significant adjustment pointers until 50k or more hands.

Do not be too proud to ask for review from people in the forum in the know or even seek coaching from some of the reputable coaches here. They are worth what they charge for sweats and some of them here can pick up leaks that you would never spot yourself.

As for the 40 hours a week. A window cuz you cant kickstart a biscuit. Really you cant tell how long a person will take to be break even or positive if at all. That is down to how well you adjust and are willing to learn. I know people that redeposit every week and have a graph that looks like a San Fransico street. I know others that put away pride get coaching read review and adjust not only their game as a whole but their play for each situation and they havent deposited in years. I hope you fit the latter
Best of luck

Re: live to online

Hey OP,
I don't play much live, I play 25NL and am taking shots at 50NL atm. I grinded my roll up from 2NL about 6 months ago. I used to grind sngs, but switched to cash and got murdered at stakes as low as 5NL, I improved quickly after wathcing heaps of card runners vids, posting hands and reading the stickies.

IMO, when i have played live i have played 1/2 and 2/3 (probably about 5-10 times a year) and from what i have seen im about 90% sure the guys i played against (who all think they were gods gift to poker) could seriously not beat 10NL. If you have made 25k beating up these fish and batteling the brutal variance of live poker I think you'll be fine. GLGL...

Re: live to online

Game online is better than live..you should play what you think you can play.. just read day a day all info you can get from some good pages of training and train your game to beat the levels.

Dont worry, you will

Re: live to online

Don't forget BI management - crucial if you want to crush online poker. 20 BIs minimum as a rule of thumb, even more if you want.
