I know more than you, I THINK I'm better than you, so why do I never win!
I'm relitivly new to poker. I started playing at 16 with friends in home games. At that point no one knew enything so it was just who was the luckiest on the night.
Anyway I regularly play in a home game with a load of what I would describe as donks but I never win! I can blame run bad all I like but that can't be the only factor. The guys I play with are so nieve. They don't have any appreciation of stacksizes (Harringtons M concept ect), or any other poker theory for that matter. Non of them play online like myself. All in all I feel I have a massive edge on them. The problem is I have no actual grounds to base this so called edge on,ie no wins against them over a 2 year period.
What most tilts me is when they start telling me about ****ty 'teckers' that is often a load of ****, I just have to swallow and pretent to accept what they are saying because what grounds to I have to prove to them that I know anything more than them. Within my group of friends there are these two donks that know **** all but have been running like gods in the casino and they are so nieve to the fact that poker is an infinitely complex game. They think they know it all because they have been huge luck sacks. Another friend wants to start playing online. He thinks he's the GOD of poker. Because he's won a few times at these home games. He's sooooo nieve. He thinks he is going to deposit 50 dollars jump straight into 10nl with no regard of BRM and crush. I'm just like wtf! When I tell him that he's crazy I just get, 'well it's not like your any good' , 'what do you know' . I have not played enough online to show I'm a winning player yet. SO WAT DO I KNOW!
I personally think my ego is getting in the way here. But I find it hard not having any respect for my game from my peers. Should I just give up on them?
Sorry for the huge rant.

No offense but if you have been playing with bad players for 2 years and havent won once you may want to reevaluate your game and read/study up more.

How many hands do you reckon you've played v these guys?

Why the heck would you want to prove this to them?
Surely you want them to believe you're an even bigger donk than they are?
Definitely sounds like you're letting your ego get in the way. Huge leak imo.
Good Luck.

Poker an infinitely complex game? No, it's pretty simple. Best hand wins.
In all seriousness, you're overthinking it. Against beginners or bad players, stop balancing your range, calculating your M, triple-merging your range, doing on-the-fly ICM calculations, or otherwise engaging in FPS.
Take it back to basics. This is the same thing we hear from online players making the transition to live. All the same advice applies. Play ABC poker, value bet, etc.
And if you want to enter a dick-measuring contest, enter a dick-measuring contest. Don't play poker.

Chances are they are better than you but who cares what they are up to? Work on your game. And ignore everyone

Yeah, don't play $100 poker against $1 players.

If you are good at poker but lose to bad players today then they poetically have gotten lucky andmade some good hands.
If you lose to them over 6 months maybe they are really lucky.
If you never beat them over 2 years and then you are almost certainly getting schooled and you are a fish
Sounds to me like even if you in theory are the better player that you friends have you completely and utterly owned due to factors such as knowing how to press ur buttons or perhaps u have massive tells.
It's also possible that u are being leveled and at least some of the other guys are way better than the donks they pretend to be. Also talk is cheap, smack talk is free. Maybe they also lie when they say they crush live games.
At the end of the day, ur getting owned... U need to let go of ur ego, figure out what the problems are and get ur **** together if you want to not be a long term loser against these villians.

Re: I know more than you, I THINK I'm better than you, so why do I never win!
you're probably losing to them because of FPS and treating it like it's online thinking poker dude.
just play ABC TAG poker and win. do nothing fancy.
your ego is probably making you do -EV plays against these opponents. just think one level above and profit.
and stop trying to prove yourself. the worst mindset at a poker table is trying to prove your skills and do fancy ****. just stay egoless and humble, pretend you suck WHILE you playl for once and just humble yourself and treat them as poker equals, even if they're not. after you beat them say "you got lucky" so they keep coming back and giving their money to you. you'll find that a huge relief will spread across your shoulders that you don't have to prove anything and your poker game will improve as a result. poker is a lot like lfie in this sense.
seriously.

if they are donks, but you never win, arent you a bigger donk than them?
I can blame run bad all I like but that can't be the only factor.
most of what people call run bad is actually down to them playing bad
The guys I play with are so nieve. They don't have any appreciation of stacksizes (Harringtons M concept ect), or any other poker theory for that matter.
although you have heard of these things, do you know how to apply them correctly? I would go as far as to say that in a home game, where the other players do not understand or maybe even know about, these concepts, that you should not be trying to apply them
Non of them play online like myself.
where do you play online? what limits? how many hands? How are you doing? just because you play online aqd they dont, does not give you the right to win.
All in all I feel I have a massive edge on them. The problem is I have no actual grounds to base this so called edge on,ie no wins against them over a 2 year period.
WHY do you feel like you have a massive edge? If you have no wins over them in a two year period, you are deluded.
What most tilts me is when they start telling me about ****ty 'teckers' that is often a load of ****, I just have to swallow and pretent to accept what they are saying because what grounds to I have to prove to them that I know anything more than them.
based on what you have told us - nothing! How do you even know their tech is bull****?
Within my group of friends there are these two donks that know **** all but have been running like gods in the casino
they must be doing something right if they are winning regularly
and they are so nieve to the fact that poker is an infinitely complex game.
do you think when Tom Dwan plays poker he thinks "oh my God, poker is infinitely complex!" or is he busy thinking, "ok, I have XY, im in Z position, the stakcs are Q, opponent thinks I have P" etc. etc.
They think they know it all because they have been huge luck sacks. Another friend wants to start playing online. He thinks he's the GOD of poker.
ask him how he got on. chances are he will be crushed
Because he's won a few times at these home games. He's sooooo nieve.
tilting me now, it's naive not nieve
He thinks he is going to deposit 50 dollars jump straight into 10nl with no regard of BRM and crush.
I suspect it wont happen like that
I'm just like wtf! When I tell him that he's crazy I just get, 'well it's not like your any good' , 'what do you know' . I have not played enough online to show I'm a winning player yet. SO WAT DO I KNOW!
apparently not a lot. so why are you acting like you are a poker guru to your friends who are crushing you? I would hate to be your friend if this is how you would talk about me behind my back by the way.
I personally think my ego is getting in the way here. But I find it hard not having any respect for my game from my peers. Should I just give up on them?
Sorry for the huge rant.

Your ego is MASSIVE and appears to centre on the fact that you are a member of this site and have read some stuff. Who cares if your peers respect your game? All that should matter is getting better, and playing good poker. Get this right and the money will follow. Give up on them? Because they dont respect you? Well you arent showing them much respect calling them donkeys and slating their play in the face of the evidence hey? I dont think you have th right attitude for poker. Prove me wrong.
