HUD--to color code or not? HUD--to color code or not?

I go back and forth on color coding my HUD. Sometimes I think it's helpful, other times I find it distracting. What do others think? Do you color code all stats or just certain ones like VPIP and PFR?

I colour code my stats, but mostly I rely on my colour coding on the site - mostly stars btw - for a quick idea of if they are Fish/Nit/2+2 etc

I think it depends if you have your filtered for different amounts of people at the table or not. If you don't, then it's really not worth it, because if the table gets short you might make a stupid mistake. Also, i find non-colored stats a lot easier to read.

Everything's colour-coded in mine.
Bad players tend to have lots of green numbers, nits tend to have lots of red ones, so I can make at-a-glance decisions pretty accurately. Extreme values for certain stats also stand out, as I have them in bright yellow.
I've also started using the colour boxes in HEM 2's Autorate. It's not quite as good as the colour-coding on Stars (I miss those halos around players' avatars when I'm not on Stars), but it helps to have a big green box around the obvious whale when you're multitabling and might forget which player you should be targeting with iso-raises.

11 stats, 8 color-coded with different stats.
I see little point in coloring based on the value of the stat, it's a double up in information.

I colour code the players using stars colors, light blue for nit (<10 vpip and pfr), orange for reggish player, green for fish and yellow for reggy but on the side of fish.

For individual stats, I colour code vpip, pfr, 3bet, and number of hands played. all are green for fishyness, yellow for normal and red for nitty except number of hands which starts green, changes to yellow as it goes up then turns white after 50 hands.

I'm curious, what is the advantage of color-coding 'number of hands'?

at a glance reliability of stats.

I color code all my stats in my HUD (14) and also use the PS one after I have decent number of hands on someone. A bit different set up than chad0x00, but they mainly are supposed to scream red=tag, light red=tag, but calls more than he should, orange=aggrotard, blue=fish, white=whale and yellow=nit. My stats in HEM is set up in the same way so they correspond quite nicely.

I'm color blind though and if I weren't I'd probably use a lot more shades to differentiate each type of player more acurately as this is a very general setup.

Gives you an idea how reliable the stats are.

The more hands, the more reliable stats are. EG: VPIP of 50 over 10 hands is somewhat meaningless... but after 200 hands, he is a whale.

My point is:

If your eyes are directed to the stat anyway to distinguish the color, isn't it easier to just read the number (or the number of digits)?

With just 50 hands, you can only tell something about VPIP/PFR. The rest of the stats are never accurate (although they can look accurate).
Wouldn't you be better off, coloring the stats based on their reliabillity? That is, don't color the number of hands but color the VPIP-stat, PFR-stat, ..etc with your reliabillity-color-code.

I dont think you can do relational colouring in HEM, like if hands played with this player > 50 colour stats according to his tendencies.

And no, when Im 4 tabling zoom for instance, I cant read every number of hands shown repeatedly, its all I would ever do. What I can do is look at anyone who is relevant to my decision for stats, out the corner of my eye Id notice white hands played = stats are good or hands played = gree, stats not reliable.

I can see the colour of somethign a lot quicker than I can read any numbers.

i color code my hands,vpip,pfr,3bet,f3bet,cbet,fcbet
but just bc it makes it more easy to find the fish/reg

and use stars colors for opr

i think coloring number of hands is a good thing to do

I loved the BlackRain79 idea to color code HUD stats for beginners as streetlights. green for fishy players, yellow for usual and red for nitty stats. It did help me a lot.

Ah, don't know much about HEM. Did the trial but was sold on PT3's customisation possibillities.

I can see the colour of somethign a lot quicker than I can read any numbers. That explains it. But why the different color-scheme? Seems to me that red for too few hands and green for enough hands would be more intuitive.
For beginners, the streetlight or stoplight will work wel. They don't have an working set of stat-ranges yet and color-coding helps them to make sense of a stat.
Just don't use your color-scheme for 6max at a FR table (or viceversa). Everybody would register as a nit (or a lag-fish).

It's best to give all the different type of stats their own color, so one spots them faster. And I mean picking the colors and not some HUD color coding crap - that's usually the talk about on this issue.
