Just preparing for the day I actually win one lol (JK)..... I heard 5% somewhere but thats seem like a ridiculous sum of money. I was thinking something like for 10- 20K jackpot you should tip 500 minimum. But for a 100k jackpot I think 1000 tip is more than enough.

I also heard of a dude not tipping at all after winning a 40k BBJ lol!.

whats your experiences? and what do you think the appropriate amount is?

yeah i think when u win alot its bad not to tip but by tipping their getting something for nothing so they should be happy , so i would n't worry to much if it was me in casino id buy the whole table a round of drinks and give the dealer 100/200$ .
at the end of the day the players are just players u would will not see/meet ever again and the dealer is just doin their job , obv if the other players were freinds of mine then id give quite a bit like maybe 10/5 % to each of them as id hope they would do the same if it was them and not me winning .

I'm pretty sure table shares are awarded as it is.

As for the tip, 1% is more than generous imo. They just dealt exactly the same way they did last hand which earned them $2. Tip on quality of the dealer >>> tipping on the size of the pot.

Everywhere I've played this is true.

You never worked for tips have you...

But to an extent, I agree with you. I'd rather just not have them take the drop for the bbv. The house gets to rape me further on the rake and I'm supposed to remunerate their employee with a portion of what was really mine to begin with...This is would essentially be the same as the house saying "we're going to count the rake drop at the end of the dealer's shift, give you a little back, but you should tip our dealer x% of what you get back."

I now many players like the idea of winning a huge pot, but few realize the odds of actually winning it. Especially if the house rules state you must use both cards in your hand.

Standard tip, the dealer didn't do anything to change my odds or help me win it

To people who say 'standard amount, didn't do anything', please try working as a dealer for a month to have to be around *******s such as yourselves, and then report back with how you feel then.

No one forced you to be a dealer, you can quit anytime. Why should I, as a player give you a big piece of my forced BBJ, -EV, drop.

You realize that you can, at many casinos, opt out of the BBJ drop, right? The casino will make a fuss, but they can't make you participate. Rake, yes, BBJ, no. You can ask to be thrown your portion back at the end of a pot, if you are so... financially sensitive. If you win it, you don't get anything because you didn't contribute, but you're still willingly giving this.

Also, oh boy, there's TONS of jobs out there right now! You're right, I should just go and... oh... wait. No, you're a moron.

i think if you won the pot you should tip them the winnings in the pot and just take the bad beat jackpot money and leave ur money on the table for dealer , that's more than fair

in the bad beat jackpot, the winning hand don't get the jackpot. (the loser hand does).

I won a BB once for like 12k and gave the dealer 500. don't know if that was standard or over generous now.

That's plenty generous as far as I'm concerned. The dealer should be happy he gets tipped enough to be compensated for the hands he's missing while the action is stopped; anything on top of that is gravy. Remember, you paid into the BBJ; he didn't.

Also, the OP's screen name is quite apt, considering the thread.

Hilariously generous IMO.

I might sling him $100 in those circumstances, but I generally expect employers to remunerate their staff, not random customers. I understand things work differently in the US though, so YMMV.

Listening to a radio stn in the car yesterday, there was a discussion on tipping (in general - not just in poker). Massive difference in perception between US and pretty much everywhere else. It's a cultural thing as much as anything else. I've only played live a few times in the UK and don't recall anybody tipping the dealer anything - that said the dealer was only on the tourney tables...the cash tables were dealing themselves, so I guess that says a bit about the casino scene in parts of the UK.
