If you are just starting out, you don't need the best coaching possible. In fact, you don't need coaching at all. Read a book, start playing and participate in the forums here. You'll be surprised how far that can take you if you put in the work. If you don't put in the work, coaching won't take you far, either.

You seem to already have a gazillion of these threads including this one: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/32...23/?highlight=

You're taking by far the best approach. Do you even enjoy playing poker or what have you played?

I dont know if you are trolling or not ...

From what you're saying you want to make this your sole income?
If you are just starting out, dont count on it to be your sole source of income.

Buy some books, perhaps software which keeps track of your statistics for you, create some excel sheets with winnings and losings, etc....

For the money part, you can start with 5 dollars up to as much as you want.
Find a game you can beat (eg 5/10 NL) and grind all day long.

The only rule (imo) is to play with money you can afford to lose.

Most countries have NL 2. So you need about $2 a game to get started. One way to start a poker roll is recycling. 40 cans a buy in. It is not a very hard hobby to get started with.

I'm not being funny. But, what do these things mean? I can only presume they are typo's?

A coach with any understanding of the game can save you 100s of hours right from the get-go.

So in conclusion how many thousands does one need? on average. I agree a coach can save you a lot of time and money thats why i want to go that way from the start. Also it will be a lot easier i find it very difficult to find out my own mistakes

Depends. I'd say coaching costs anywhere from around ~$50-$500/hr depending on stakes/experience/popularity.

There is a lot you can do on your own when you start though, so again it all depends on how much you value your own time and how hard you're going to try.

If you're wanting to learn 6-max cash you can PM for my rates, otherwise you can head over to the subsection for coaching/training.

venice pretty much nailed it. But you seem to be deadset on coaching. So here u go.

If you are playing on line crank out 50k+ hands (using PT or HEM). Then get in touch with mpethy bridge (he has/had) an ad in the coaching forum. He does dbase analysis...and he is the best in the biz. He will tell you all yer leaks etc. He does not charge NEARLY enough. I have not seen him in these forums in quite some time so I am not sure if he is still active

If you are playing live you have to find a decent coach and that can be difficult. A decent 1/2 - 2/5 coach is gunna run you around 100 bux per hr. I no longer coach but I generally do not like meeting with clients more than 1x per week. There is a lot of info to process and more than that seems to be overwhelming. You should prolly have 4k set aside for playing 1/2 in addition to 100$per week coaching budget. If your coach is any good at all you should see giant strides in your thought process on a weekly basis

I know many coaches do skype for live coaching...thats cool and all but I prefer face to face also enables me to do sweat sessions in both directions.

where are you playing?
live or on line?

I don't think having a coach, especially an expensive one is enough use for a beginner. You can literally get everything you need on these forums or the internet without trying too hard.

All a good coach could do at the start of your career is teach you what's already freely available. You will have to spend time studying material this material anyway. I cannot see the $ paid to the coach making it so much quicker that you save money in the short to medium run.

If you want to talk about the long run, what you pay to learn now is not going to magically stick for the rest of your career. Also consider the medium to long term volatility of the game and it makes a big investment now even less attractive.

Read the stickies in this and every other strategy forum. If you really want to part with your money maybe go with a training site.

There are also loads of great, free podcasts out there. My favourite is the Thinking Poker podcast.
