How many playable hands do you get? How many playable hands do you get?

Just finished another 6 hr session where I had 10 descent starting hands.
I usually just play tag wait for big hands and play them very hard.
The stakes are 2/5.
Am I playing to tight?
I have won the last 4 times I've played for a total of about $650.
And I am fairly new, I just don't know what to expect.
Is this the norm?

Is your game slow or fast? Let's say it is slow with some sunglasses guys tank/folding to protect... well, something. There you get 25 hands an hour or worse. 6 hours would be 150 hands. If you had 10/150 hands decent, you were playing 7% of hands? Sounds like either you were a little unlucky in what you were dealt, or maybe all the spots where you had decent-ish/marginal hands it was already a big raise. That happens all the time in 150 hand samples. Either that or you're playing tight. No way to know from here.

Have you looked at reasonable starting hand charts by position? Are you playing looser or tighter than that? Your actual strategy is how someone could tell you. 150-200 hand samples with a rough count probably won't tell us much. If you'd played 75 hands, we could certainly say you were too loose.

congrats on being up. In the scheme of things, you're up about a buy in? While it is more fun than being down, it is about even. You have swings of multiple buyins all the time. That's poker. Expect times when things seem to go great and other times when you can't buy a win.

Best of luck. I hope the winning continues.

I get a playable hand 23% of the times. Used to be 27% but i started to be a bit more critical about it lately.

There was one session where I don't even remember seeing a flop for 6+ hours. Live poker is an extreme test of patients sometimes.

I would expect 1 to 2 really nice hands an hour on average, live poker is only about 30 hands an hour and you can only 1 table.

You can get virtually nothing much positive happening in a session like that sometimes. Other times you get a nice run of cards and bad play by your opponents. It is a small sample and hard to judge what is "normal". Take it, be happy and hope it continues.

You can get 3 or 4 hour stretches where you get zero hands that you should play based on the cards and what happens in front of you. How many hands you actually play can show a lot about whether you are a winning or losing player.

In these situations what do you guys do to stay patient and on track? Music? Socializing? And of course reading the action and analyzing the players at the table.

Play a bunch of unplayable hands and convince ourselves we make up for it due to huge post flop edge?

Seriously I often just become a spectator at the table when the cards and other factors are poor. Sometimes it can be both entertaining and informative. I don't get bored that easy. Not a solution that works for everyone I realize.
