How to deal with losing sessions How to deal with losing sessions

Hello guys,
I am currently reviewing my database after 100k+ hands playing NL10 Zoom. After finding some leaks I took also a look into how many sessions I have won/lost and how much $ I make on average when I win/lose.

The good thing is that I am winning most of my sessions, losing sessions are rare but when I am having a losing sessions, then I am losing a lot. I would say my losing sessions on average are something like 4-6 BI´s (within 1k-1.5k hands). To lose 3-4 stacks within few hundred hands at Zoom is nothing special even by playing good and making good decisions. But after I lose these 3-4 stacks I start to take more risky moves and lose then even more. Of course some tilt is also involved. These losing sessions where the reasons why I could not achive a higher winrate (current winrate is 4bb/100). It is also quite depressive to have 5 winning sessions in a row and then to lose the made profit within one session. How do you deal with such losing sessions ? Would it make sense for me to implement a stop loss strategy (something like let say 4BI) ? Thanks in advance.

Mike Caro pointed it out years ago that table conditions have a much higher influence on our winrate than almost anything else. Ideally, you should be continually evaluating where you stand against the table. If the players seem to be outplaying you when you lose, you should get up. However, most of us aren't able to objectively evaluate our skill compared to our villains. Therefore, a stop loss is a second best solution that at least acknowledges that if we have lost 3 BIs, the odds are good we're at tougher tables than usual and should leave.

Live outlook versus online here, but anything more that two bullets imo is a bad idea unless you can be completely honest with yourself and see that the lost of your BIs was through coolers / suckouts and not bad play / tilt. Like venice said, its hard for a player to be objective to table conditions in the midst of the rough time.

Some things you should consider:

1. Don't track your bankroll, just your play and study and continue to make +EV plays. Being up or down for the day/week/month is something people get far too attached on and it clearly makes you play different than your A game based on your post.

2. Work on your mental game. Practice discipline and take regular breaks when you feel you're slipping below your A game.

To add to this I'd say if you can turn off balance info on the site that definitley helps to be disciplined. I think through practice you can make yourself only thing of the longterm.

To evaluate the own skill level against the table is at Zoom poker unfortunately not possible since every is hand played against new opponents.

Danny6 pointed it out, I should concentrate myself more to make +EV plays in every situation and stop to track my bankroll while playing. And of course to work on my mental game, since I am deviating from my A-game when losing few stacks.
