How Come

For the last two days, I have seen more stupid plays ending in ridonkulous suck outs than I have in a long time. How come the beats clump together like this? Is it just variance and my lack of understanding of probabilities?

Its the variance. You'll probably go through even worse downers than two days aswell. But you'll also get times like this when it seems like you cant stop flopping monsters and sucking out. Its just the way it works i suppose.

Re: How Come

Had a few days like that a while ago and in retrospect I must admit that I did lose more than necessary because of tilt. Yes, I flopped monsters and yes, I got sucked out on. But I also did very questionable calls to huge river raises because I refused to believe that some donk sucked out on me again. This is tilt. If you get your money in good and get sucked out on, then that's a different story and nothing you can do about it. But if you still a few hands later find yourself thinking about that suck out and how sweet your graph would look if you got the money you deserved, then perhaps it's time to take a break.

Re: How Come

yeah true say. I was thinking about this. It only feels like a problem because the buyin is large compared to my roll. I feel more comfortable 50BI deep so Im going to slow down, get there and then move on. I should be overjoyed that Im playing people who will play crazy draws all the way to the river but I cant stand the variance 20-25 buyins deep.

Re: How Come

Variance is not predictable. Well not in the short term way that we'd like it to be.

We know that in the long run we're going to experience variance but we for sure can't expect the run-bad to come in nice neat clumps, breaking up the otherwise delightful run-good in a predictable manner.

If variance was predictable, you could just sit out when you knew your AA were about to get cracked.

Playing over-rolled FTW imo.

Good Luck.

Re: How Come

overrolled FTW is dead right. I laugh at people who post on here that they are using aggressive bankroll management they always post a while later "How I bust my roll aggressively." 50 buyins for the win.

Depends on your winrate. Numbers are meaningless without context, but point made.

It is possible to manage a bankroll aggressively without going broke, but it's not something I'd recommend in this forum, and it's much less aggressive than what people think is aggressive when they hear the word aggressive.
