How can I best prepare for 1-2 NL Holdem in one week? How can I best prepare for 1-2 NL Holdem in one week?

I am going to Vegas next week and need some guidance to prepare for all the Poker I plan on playing.

1. I have played Poker mostly with friends. I usually win but it's because they suck.
2. I played NL Holdem at casinos few times. Lost more than I've won.

I want to change that and go with some kind of preparation this time. How should I prepare?

There are a lot of youtube videos for you to learn the poker in a week. I was also a looser in poker. But Leakbuster and it's videos have helped me a lot to improve my winrate in poker by increasing my poker skill within a short time. You can try with it. Seem it may help you a lot.

Thanks guys. I'll look into it. I tried YouTube but was overwhelmed with the amount of content there. I'll look into leakbuster and LLSNL.

LOL. So you're recommending being very passive unless I have a monster hand right?

next time you plan a pokertrip, start preparing sooner then a week before.
as is, read content in micor section and get some hands under your belt online (though much lower stakes as live is much easier)...maybe NL5/NL 10

Not passive. Tight aggressive.

Value bet is betting in hopes a weaker hand will call. Doesnt have to be a monster.

This video has some pretty awesome stuff about basic tells, which are still useful against rec players as they aren't trying hard to hide the tells.

But basically the gameplan should be:

- Don't join the limpfest
- Isolate when in position with somewhat wide range eg. with all Axs and most Kxs
- Open tight range preflop
- When someone 3bets you its KK+ 90% of the time.
- When someone 4bets you its KK+ 100% of the time.

- Against 1-2 players you can often cbet 100% of your range.
- Spot the callingstations and don't valuetown yourself against them.
- 3 barreling on draw heavy boards is quite effective.

Live is EZ.

I think live isn't that EZ when you don't know what limpfest, isolate, range, cbet and barreling means.

Limpfest - Bad players like to limp. Example. the blinds are 1/2 so they just call the 2 instead of raising or folding. Thats limping. If your hand is worth playing it worth raising.

Isolating is raising limpers or reraising a raiser with a strong hand.

Cbet is betting the flop after you raised preflop.

Barreling is betting the turn and/or river

These are things you may already be doing in your home games

Read the stickies in the BQ as well. There's heaps of stuff there.

Actually, maybe leave that for the next trip, there's a ton of stuff there.

Try and remember who's playing a lot of hands vs. Who isn't. People playing lots of hands have a looser range. These are the people you generally want to value bet at.

Read all the "why you suck at unl" posts here. Posts one, five, and six are the ones that will have a more immediate effect, but it's good to understand the mindset of good players, and how they approach poker. Can't go wrong with reading all the posts. http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/32...forum-1368796/

Read them again. Become one with the concepts. Be the concepts. Make sure you understand them, and you're not doing them "because you were told to."

Good luck sir. Remember, experience trumps theoretical knowledge, so don't beat yourself if you can't apply what you've learnt straight away and have some fun getting better! Enjoy your trip.

Joining a limp-fest is totally fine in live low stakes. Just make sure you meet the following criteria;
You have a SC (at most 1 gapper), pp, AXs limping from the CO, button or blinds. Start bombing when you hit gin, don't play tricky.

No, he's telling you not to play many hands. If there aren't 6 players at the table playing more hands than you then you are probably playing too loose. Even if there are, you may still be playing too loose.

Agreed. Also don't call raises preflop just because everyone else has called and you are getting great odds.

Nope. Only isolate with a very tight range. You can raise hands like AK and AQ but limp your smaller Axs

Don't do this. You will be better off by literally never bluffing

Just don't bluff and you'll be fine.

Don't single barrel, don't double barrel and most certainly don't ever ever ever triple barrel.

The advice I have given is not optimal but it should allow you to be profitable despite having limited experience.

I'd expect the smaller poker rooms to have softer games than ARIA, Bellagio, Venetian or Wynn.

I actually don't think this is the best advice for playing live 1/2. Its perfectly fine to join the limp fest in countless scenarios if 3 people limp in front of you have and you have suited connectors like 56-j10 or even qj probably, pocket pairs 22 to 77 limping along is fine. If you raise it up to 10 or 12 they arent going to fold anyway. You have to understand how to limp in these live 1/2games. Online you never have to worry about it because you're almost never going to have 3+ limpers when acting pre. But live there are so many times where you just can't iso.

In a passive game you can limp all pocket pairs and Sooted aces. Don't limp suited connectors unless in late position though.
