Good Starting Range for Live 1/2 Good Starting Range for Live 1/2

Most players in the game are loose and passive while a couple of them are loose and aggressive. Let us assume that there is only one player at the table who is tight and aggressive.

Generally, this happens every hand: 4 or 5 limpers every hand or someone raises from early position to $12 and gets 4 or 5 callers.

What would a good starting hand range be from the various positions at a table like this? And how does that range change between opening and calling?

See flops IP, raise ultra tight EP, bet huge with value range.

Live is 9 or 10 handed, raising 22 UTG is pretty bad at the typical FR table.

I'd start with open raising something like this:

UTG/UTG+1: AQo+/KQss/AJss/99+

If the table is silly passive, I will add some hands like 55+ and suited aces as an open limping range.

Then adding cards to open raise range by position. Wouldn't be opening all pockets until MP at least.

CO I'd go something like all broadways, A9o, all suited aces, all pockets, suited connectors 65ss+, any two suited both 9+ and few other suited hands, e.g. K8ss, J8ss.

But what we open with becomes less relevant as we get closer to the button since we are almost always facing raises and limps. I probably get to open raise the button less often than I get to cold 4bet in live games.

What to do everywhere is complex but some rules of thumb:

1. Your calling range should be narrower than your raising range.

2. Your raising range into limpers should be narrower than your open raising range.

3. Your 3bet range should be tighter with multiple people already in the pot.

4. Be more inclined to fold out of position, more inclined to call on the button.

Werebeer ur such a nit, i raise any suited Ax any position in a live 1/2-2/5 game, you should be 3!ing a lot vs an open + multiple cc's with a linear range itll just be higher EV if u know how to play postflop, call as wide as possible in lp, mp, and sometimes EP because no 1 squeezes.

I go as wide as KJs, ATo, and KQ sometimes depends on a lot of factors.

If whole table is 200bb deep+ will add in SC hands like 67s in EP, but yeah be careful with those types of hands generally play hands u are comfortable with if starting out

---

Look up some hand charts online, poker snowie etc.

Main thing u shud take away is raise stuff that does well postflop/is playable, does well MW and can value bet multiple streets with. I don't even raise 22-66 if i'm in MP it does terrible postflop unless we flop a set.

Type of strat goes for any full-ring/9-max game, except in live poker every 1 calls way to wide which is very good.

Sure, I'm a nit. Tight is right though. I doubt it's profitable to open every suited ace UTG and even if it is, you're giving up a trivial amount of EV by using the above range.
