Which game type? Which game type?

Hi all, I'm pretty new to poker and have been subsidizing the winings of others for several weeks now. I'm reading up A LOT and have seen people recommend sticking to one game type, but which one? I find the dynamic of heads up a bit hectic as its too fast (there is no way people are calculating pott odds and equity on every move) and bluffing dominates. I have done ok in tournaments (even came 2nd in one) by being defensive and disciplined enough to focus on premium hands only, steal blinds where appropriate and occasionally take a punt when in position....but tournaments do take hours and hours and I am pretty sure I'm just breaking even. I'm also reasonably convinced Im pretty **** overall at this because even when I play $3 dollar spin and go's I lose routinely....I guess they're just a variation of heads up which I gather I should just avoid. Any recommendations? Would be nice to find the right level/game type before these losses get out of hand.

Cheers,
Gareth

Hi Gareth. I wouldn't add spins to your game selection as it's one of the most high variance games out there and it could do serious damage to your starting bankroll.

Also, keep in mind that bankroll management is a must in poker. If I were you, I would start grinding micro MTTsngs. The 45/90/180 $.50/$1.50 ones.

Grind your way up, learn on your way climbing up. Study as much as you can, and put in superb volume. Also, don't play to many tables if your game is not good enough. Cap your table count to 4 tables a time. So that you can focus on every single spot against various villians.

If you not have a tracker program yet, I suggest you to buy one. Either Pokertracker or Holdem Manager, to keep track of your results, and build up important stats against people you play against. After a while you will have solid HUD stats against them, to exploit them eventually.

Good luck!
