Hey guys,

About a week ago i redeposited 500$ on my favourite poker site. And the results have been far beyond what i expected. Within 5 days i managed to get my bankroll to $2300. Every card i needed just hit time after time, i got lots of KK and AA's and also had several coolers in my favour where i completely stacked my opponent because he had a hand he just couldn't fold with. It feels great winning that much and making almost 2K in just a week.

Now, the table has completely turned. I went from my orgininal 2,3K all the way back to 1,1K and i'm about to drop under 1K. The reason is because i seem to be getting nothing but garbage cards and there's sessions where i literally bleed to death because of the blinds. There's sessions where the best i get is a Q10 off and even then it's usually in a horrible position.

Then, those rare times i have a made hand, it gets miraculously beat by an opponent. I've had several set-over-set situations, get beat by a higher two pair consistently, and my K-high flush obviously had to be beat by the A-high flush. I also got it all in on the turn as a big favourite, only to see the site give my opponent his miracle card. None of my bluffs seem to work, i miss every board, and the money seems to be leaving my account rapidly.

Is this common? How do you deal with situations like this? Will the 'luck' return? Is it better to stop playing for a while? How do you guys usually cope with these phases where everything just seems to go wrong and you do nothing but lose?

I feel kinda frustrated and i noticed that my only focus now is NOT LOSING any chips and i don't play optimally anymore - of course that doesn't work at all. I am more sensitive to tilt and donkey decisions are more frequent in my game now. Please give me some good advice :3

So you're winning $600 in a week and you're upset why?

The correct way to deal with it is to accept your not that good at poker. Move down and stop playing the stakes your playing. Withdraw your $600 profit and be happy you got lucky to even be in profit.

Judging from OPs post history I can conclude OP has a pretty severe gambling problem. Threads range from $10NL to $200 in an extremely short period, that's not normal.

Seriously just move down to 2NL and take the analytical approach instead of moaning after winning $600 in a week. Play 25k hands at micro stakes and carefully review if you can actually play a steady winning game.

what limits are you playing at with your $500 initial deposit? sounds like that is the issue and may need to go down in stakes until you ride out this rough patch. meanwhile, have you changed or opened your starting hand list (esp because you've been hitting and maybe feel like your cards will def be coming.)

Epic upswings and downswings due to random variance are normal.

Bleeding to death due to random variance is not normal. Hemophiliacs gonna hemophiliac?

It is when you don't exercise any bankroll management and play like a sailor who just got shore leave after being on a submarine for six months.

Game type/Limits? What is your bankroll? What is your sample size?

Sounds like you might be playing above your means and definitely above your skill level if you're asking these questions OP.

There's no way you should have won $2k in a week with a $500 role.

Practice BRM (I.e. move down)
Learn about variance.

OP .. read your own post please.

1) You hit a bunch of AA/KK and 'cornered' a few opponents in some big pots. Any poker player will tell you this isn't typical and enjoy the ride because it can turn on you just as fast.

2) You've been set/set and outdrawn. Here is where you can actually look into your play.

I've seen this plenty in my game and others .. When you are 'hot' people tend to expand their ranges and 'everything' starts to look good. But what you are really doing is taking adverse risk with marginal hands ... and probably bloating your own pots along the way (or perhaps playing at higher stakes). Should you really be taking K4s up against KJ? Even if you hit 2pr on the Flop you are still very vulnerable to a suck out.

I had a session last week where 3 times I Flopped 2 pair and the other player hit a set with my lower card. By the 3rd time you get pretty steamed but you need to learn to stay on course. Less than an hour later I hit quad Ks for the high hand and made most of the chips lost back.

There are 2 things you need to do ...
1) Check the range of cards you were winning with against the range of cards you are losing with.
2) 'See' your holdings for what they really are and don't always swing for the fences even when you think you Flopped gin.

You sound as if you have decent poker knowledge (not wanting to play QT OOP). You need to accept that everyday is not Christmas or this game will wreck you quick.

I am serious .. compare your first paragraph to the third .. What would you be saying if you had lost first and then started a big comeback with the AA/KK hands? Your post would have a whole different tune to it .. if you had posted at all. GL
