TR of Mikes007 and obviously.bogus's excellent adventure at Turning Stone last night.
Last night there was a mini-BQ meet-up in upstate NY. Mikes007 lives about an hour or so from Mrs Bogus's parents place, and usually when I visit upstate, its for family gatherings so there isn't any time for side trips, but this time I was able to arrange the time for a meet-up with Mike for an evening at Turning Stone
I particularly wanted to enter their $65 ($500 added) tourney, which despite the horrendous rake I liked because I have never actually played a real-money live tourney before.
Due to a combination of me being horribly late to start out from home, and then after leaving Mikes house forgetting that Tears Tears absolutely needed to be there for photo-ops, so having to detour back to collect TT, we missed out on the extra 20% bonus chips for registering early ... sorry Mike ...
So we get there and are registered and get to our seats with about one minute of the clock elapsed. I had literally just put my chips on the felt and I was being dealt cards UTG+1 (8 handed) I had 88 .. UTG folds and I'm "Umm err, I havn't even sat down ... wtf do I do" ... and I panic folded ...
Next hand ... UTG ... 55 ... well I just folded 88 ... I gotta fold this I guess ...
Thru the early levels I was down a bit and never really found the cards or spots to make a move until ... (and thanks for reminding me Mike) ...
I had A8 ... (don't remember all the details of the hand ... that is one of my problems with playing live) and got HU with the aggrotard of the table to the flop. Flop was something like 842 ,,, and somehow we got it AI ... agg****** had Q8 (sun)
Most of the time I was super nitty, and that seemed to work well both during the early part of the tourney when there always seemed to be an aggro player or two ATT, and once the avg bb stack got so low it was mostly shove and call or fold pre.
I didn't get the time to check on Mike and how he was doing until at some point I looked over to his table and he wasn't there
I will admit that I had momentary thoughts of having been abandoned, and wondering how I would get out of there, but I needn't have worried ... Mike stuck around for the duration and played some LHE.
Tiny Tears with our stack at the first break.
There were 52 entries, and 7 payed and I really didn't expect to end up ITM, but I just kept on hanging in there. A couple of times I was down to an M of less than 2 and close to 1. I don't recall having to get it in really bad, and somehow I managed to survive, winning a couple of flips and some times I got it in dominating, then all of a sudden I was at the FT with a short stack.
First hand, the shortest stack is BB for 6k of his 17k stack. A big stack in MP raised to 16k, and BB calls, leaving 1k behind
... Checks to the river where MP puts BB all in for his last 1k ... BB calls ... MP shows something like a low middle pair and BB throws his hand face down into the muck and storms off muttering obscenities !!!!
As couple of hands later, two reasonable size stacks get it AIPF with a classic race (don't recall exactly ... it wasn't AK vs QQ but it was close)
At that point I was the shortie, with a stack no more than 1/2 that of the next shortie.
Then within milliseconds of 9th place leaving (7 pay), someone suggested paying the bubble ... and within seconds, it was seconded and the majority agreed, and bubble would be paid $100.
Ofc I was out next, I don't even recall what it was ... I guess it was totally standard ... but at least I got bubble boy money ... my first ever real money live tourney and I come out with a +ve ROI (party)
Tiny Tears at the cage with her payout slip.
In the meantime, Mike had been playing some cash LHE. I hear it didn't go as well as could be hoped
It was already pretty late by the time we got back to Mike's place, and I still had a way to go to Mrs Bogus's parents place. We had already talked about the perils of stupid deer on the roads, and despite going slower than usual, I hit a deer
Tiny Tears with the money ...
(party)
Edit: When I arrived, I put Tiny Tears on the rail of the table. Apparently this isn't allowed and was freaking some people out
