i see i see how exciting, im going to have to learn how to do this when i start playing online, when i do we should bet on if i can hit like 15x my initial deposit in 24 hrs.
02-15-2008 , 06:15 AM
Oh, I'm sure you could do it.

Go back and read this thread and follow Sputum's story. He started with less than 10 dollars, and is probably riding around 1600 right now.

Several others have started with almost nothing, and are playing with at or around 1000 as well.

Me, I had a nice little start, but since then (3 weeks now) have been slowly and steadily grinding up playing 10 and 25nL. To be at goal, I have one more week to reach 1000, but I won't be crushed if it takes 2 or 3, as long as I continue to put in the hands and (as best I can) make the right decisions.

Too right the grind continues, only made $4 on the micros yesterday, but on the plus side, with some FPPs I had I qualified through 2 satellites into the $2m Takedown on Stars, so heres hoping for a nice BR injection Sunday evening.

10NL got really really boring for me as i cant make any plays because people dont seem to know where the fold button is, also after playing pretty crap and running below average in tourneys i was on supertilt accoring to sharkscope.

Went from ~ $160 to $40 in few days so i decided to go play nl50 / 25 / 100. got a few double ups went upto $210. i really should learn proper BR management but i just cant stand nl10 at all. ran into this hand about 10 min ago (my highest cash pot now)

Hello all. I used to play on PartyPoker back in 2004 and was moderately successful, but I had absolutely no clue how to properly manage a bankroll. Put it this way, at the time my idea of being rolled for STTs was whatever I had 5x the buyin for, and I considered that being frugal. Yeah, I was clueless. Anyway, at the end of Dec I was bored and reading online about poker, stumbled onto the Chris Ferguson challenge page, then googling for more info about bankrolls lead me here. I think I read this site nonstop for about 2 days, what an amazing wealth of information. I decided to deposit $25 onto PokerStars and see what happened. I started off playing .02/.04 LHE, but I really don't like HE that much so I moved to .02/.04 LO8. After about 1.2k hands of not being able to raise anyone off anything, or even worse, maximize my made hands, I took a shot at PL5 O8 FR and 6 max. 18k hands and 16ptBB/100 later I knew I had made the right choice. I found this thread about 3 weeks into my journey, and stumbled upon the Nate thread from a link in this one. I just wanted to thank you both, Nate and Gina, you have been a tremendous inspiration.

And yes, I'm a damned nit (my PokerEV green line makes baby jesus cry), but I'm working on that .
02-15-2008 , 01:16 PM
Nate is awesome. Thanks to him, and one other supportive forum member (not sure if it would be ok put their name in here, so they'll be kept anon.) who volunteered some of their time to me last week when I was approaching tilt, I was able to refocus and continue playing without letting that run of bad-beats overwhelm me.
02-15-2008 , 01:51 PM
Well I have made a start anyway, 4 tabled $2NL for 80 mins for 507 hands and not a bad start:

These are the 2 hands that I might have/should have got away from but it didnt turn out to bad at the end of the day:

How would anyone else have played these hands? I think I should have folded the flop on the 2nd hand but could I have got away from the first one?

Hopefully putting in around 500 hands a day, Im starting to like cash now, seen some horrid plays so far and have learnt my number 1 lesson:

DO NOT BLUFF!!!!

Update, 838 plus 12 in staking from Sput (i'll play the 100k tomorrow)
02-17-2008 , 07:27 PM
Woot!!! 1950th-ish in the Takedown for $300, get in!!!! Multiplied my PS account 100x in ~2 hrs, so pretty pleased right now. Things were looking bleak until I saw two beautiful aces in the small blind, a raise and RR in front of me, and I eventually triple up, and then very next hand I see 44, I open raise OTB, SB calls, I flop a full house and he bluffs me his stack over two streets.

Apart from that, nothing else good really came my way, tried open raising with T9s and the like, but just kept getting played back at (or outplayed, more possibly), so I kinda withdrew a little when I shoulda been loosening up. Ended up surviving a couple of orbits pushing once or twice, then eventually losing a race and ending up just inside the second money level.

I'm starting to loose track of my BR... I keep sending $Transfers to friends who want to play and they give me cash. I think I've transfered $300+, and I currently have $370-ish and an $11 stake from Sput..... but damn it! I woke up too late for the PS Tourn. today :'(
02-17-2008 , 11:50 PM
ya, same here. I've transferred 140 since the start of the challenge, so i have to keep reminding myself to add 140 to my total.

congrats on the huge win SIQ!!

What is the status on the BR's of people in this thread
02-18-2008 , 07:12 AM
I started in this thread last Tuesday with around $40 over 3 sites, ground slowly up to around $65, then scored in a tourney yesterday to knock me up to $360ish. Gonna hit up a few $5 MTTs today see what I can do.

I just realized when I read this that I hadn't even checked my balance in 2 days. I knew I was slightly ahead based on my session analysis, and of course I was playing well within my roll, but I didn't know how much I actually had. I wish I learned bankroll management years ago, this is such a good feeling to not have an obsession with my balance.

Back on topic, balance at 233. On a nice little cooler right now, 11bb/100 under expectation for the last 2k (wtb Omaheater) yet still barely up somehow. Once I hit 250 I'm going to move over to STTs and give that a run. I feel confident that I can succeed at the cash game but based on what I'm reading I feel like I'm limiting my earning potential by not branching out.

Hi, Beginner's Forum. Did ya miss me? I wandered off to the STT forum for a while, since that's what I primarily play these days. Then to micro-NL, cause I decided I hated ICM pushbots and wanted to convert to cash. I'm glad I came by yesterday and saw this thread, it's inspirational.

When I joined 2+2 in December, I was in bad shape, vis-a-vis online BR. I had garnered unrealistic expectations based on my B&M success, and had played WAY beyond my role, losing half of it in one night. (My online roll, that is. I keep a separate live BR) Then I went into mega-chase mode trying to get it back. Finally, I told myself that I was NOT going to make a deposit, and if I lost the rest, I was done with online poker. With this in mind, I decided I needed serious discipline and study. In the course of my online searches for poker books, I found this site. Thank goodness I did.

On the first of December, my online roll was, IIRC, $3.81. Today I finally crossed the hurdle that has been stymieing me for a month, $600, which is what I had before the death spiral detailed above. I had got within $3 of it three times before, only to have the doomswitch kick in, but this time, I crossed the bar. I realize that amount of time to reach such a modest goal is not particularly impressive, but as I play single table, no PT/HUD (waiting for PT 3 release), and only a couple of hours a day, I'm pretty happy. Most of all, I've learned a TON.

Thanks for the inspirational thread. See you all at $1,000.

Cheers,
Garick

Finally I have some $$ to play with. Played a few 70FPP sats until I won 1 & then turned the $11 into $35 real dollars playing $2HUSNG & the single table turbo SNGs.

Now, back to some cash games to see if I can get this up to $100. I think I'm going to keep playing the 70FPP games & getting $T though, as that way I can basically freeroll the $4.40/180 games until I win one or two of them.

Thanks to everyone in this thread for the inspiration, which has kept me focussed & motivated to play.
02-20-2008 , 12:44 PM
im up to ~56 from 30. just playing the 3.25 SNGs.
How is everybody doing?

I haven't played that much the past few days, and am at work- but I think my balance is around 865 at the moment.
02-20-2008 , 12:59 PM
Cash is not my game lol. I was down about $12 from last week, and so decided to go back to sngs.

Current project is to play $1.20s until I reach the 100 mark. So far I have a 43.3% cash rate. Goal is 50% until I reach 100.

Secondary goal is to maintain a positive ROI around 15% for the level ( think I have that.)

Tertiary goal is to clear a $10 reload bonus from last year's WBCOOP. 28 more FPPs to go.

Current BR is $21.

wow, the last time i read you were strugglin' at 600ish
