I have been playing for about half a year, and have found my game becoming somewhat stagnant. I feel i get into the same situations over and over again, and it never really gets me anywhere. I grinded 1/2 cent very successfully at stars, and made about 300$ with it, and have done pretty well in some satellites and 180's.
I made the mistake of withdrawing most of my money to use for fun in Europe, and im kind of regretting that decision. Now my roll is just constantly roller coasting over multiple 10k hand samples, and im starting to get board. Ive played SnG's, NL cash, Limit cash, MTT's, and its all just started to feel like im a break even player when im not grinding 1/2 cent.
So now heres my deal, ive got roughly 500$, and am trying to decide on a game plan. Withdrawing it would be an option, but being in college i have so much free time anyway, it would kind of be a waste.
Any advice on how to break out of a rut, get winning again, find your game, improve, etc? Looking for really anything to go on in the field of poker. Thank you
Can you successfully grind .05/.10nl? If so you've got a fine bankroll for it and plenty of room to take the occasional shot at .25/.50nl or something when you feel overly bored... maybe you let yourself take a 2 or 3 buyin shot at .25/.50nl every 10K hands of .05/.10nl or something?
Edit: screw my advice, you're a college student, if you're bored quit poker and go have some fun. Maybe mess around at higher stakes a little bit if you enjoy it, maybe just cash out completely.
Also, if you can grind out whatever you'd make with a part-time job at .01/.02 or .05/.10, go ahead and do that instead of some job you'd enjoy less, but don't play any more than you'd work at a normal job.
Also, if you do wind up grinding at anything, just always try to improve your game.
Take some time off from poker (like a week or two) and decide if you really want to pursue it or not. If you don't miss it, move on to something else.
If you do decide to come back, pick a format/structure and stick with it. If you wanna play SNGs only play only SNGs, if you wanna play cash games play only cash games. Concentrate on developing your game.
Since you're a student and don't need to depend on poker income, be aggressive with your bankroll and moving up (but be just as quick to move down if things go bad).
With $500 you're rolled for $25NL but if you're used to $5NL that's quite a jump. So head back to $5NL but work your way up ASAP.
If i were you, I would pick a game and stick to it. Probably cash, and for you probably full ring. Then one day you should probably try to play six max and hope to run good. Remember to keep in mind school is important, you should probably focus there although you probably wont. A transition to heads up and shorthanded six max games may be in the cards, and maybe you will do well. Maybe you wont.
Oh yeah and try to avoid prop bets, those really can be a pain in your side.

You played nanostakes for 6 months made enough to have fun in Europe and have $500 left? Just do whatever you did the first time around imo
I don't know but I do recall a thread where he made some prop bet to play X amount of hands at 25nl. I think he failed the bet but his stats showed him winning over $1600 while he 24 tabled. His post seems a bit bizarre as I can't picture him playing in a game with .01/.02 blinds.
WCGRider - If you are serious I suggest you stop playing a million micro tables on basic auto-pilot. 4-table and strive to move up in stakes and eventually play in the 25/50 games....Or at least the 10/20 nl tables.
Kind of joking and being reflective, not busto, not really that bored, and sadly not drunk.
Just funny to look back like 3/4 a year ago and be like oh yeah i used to be teh broke.
My main game has been retooling at 1/2-2/4 recently but occasionally play some 3/6-5/10, and I would probably expect to see me a bit higher in the near future =p.
Just in case people didnt get this, this is a post i made 9 months ago, when i had never really played over .1/.25 cent. When i got back to school last august my bankroll was $130 and i started playing the micro limit cash games to build up my roll. Just funny how far you can go in such a short time and I thought it was kind of funny to respond to my old post with such a crazy different persective now, and realize how much I had yet to go through yet i had some mild success waiting.
