Any Tips? Any Tips?

A couple of weeks ago i heard about a 1/2 NL game at my local VFW. Ive heard its a tough game and people throw money around like crazy. I've played in several casinos and use to be a regular on Stars pre blackfriday.

Last night i decided to check the game out and see how i could do up against this so called "tough game".

Once i got there it was to my surprise not as ghetto as i thought it was going to be. I watched for a few minutes and seen what kind of stacks i was up against and decided to sit with $150. I know usually i would sit with $200 but i really just wanted to see how this game was and to see if i would ever comeback.

As for the play it was extremely loose. Limps all around some people literally chasing every draw you could think of. At one point i 3 bet pre-flop on the button and to my surprise 4 callers decided to see the flop. I played a TAG style and ended up after about 3 hours i stood up with a $138 dollar profit.

My question is does anyone have any advice for a game like this? Should i continue my tight style of play against these loose aggressive players? What if their are a couple of short stacks at my table? Should i change my play? Could i continue to play a game like this and make a profit? My roll is awful but i have a full-time job and can save up if i go busto. Any suggestions would be awesome. Ive got the image of a TAG player at the moment.

Thanks in advance!

Don't bluff the calling stations. Focus on value betting your good hands because you will continue to get paid off.

Sounds like a nice game. Keep punishing the weak preflop play as you have been doing by raising your premiums (something like QQ+, AJs+, AQo+, KQs) for value, and limp in multiway pots with JJ< and suited connectors (as you wont take the pot very often in this type of game with a raise bt can go to value town when you hit a set, straight, flush). Overall continue to play TAG and you will crush.

Will do man thanks for the advice.

Also what should i sit down at this kinda table with?
The min is $50 and it might not have a max.
I seen 2 people buy-in with $60 and literally Laughed out loud.

Forgot to tell you about a hand i experienced at this game.
Folded to me in MP i look down at AA.
I ^ it to 7 and get 3 callers.
Flop comes 10-6-2
I raised here cant remember what, prob somewhere around half the pot.
Get one caller.
King comes on the turn and i check to the guy who begins to shake and toss 30 into the pot. i Muck it knowing i was beat. He shows K10
I fist pumped on the inside.

Sounds like a standard 1/2 casino game tbh.

If you were a reg on Stars pre bf I'm surprised you're unsure how to handle this kind of situation, but just treat it like 2nl online.

Limping and chasing draws sound like loose passive, not loose aggressive so just bet big with you big hands and be happy getting 3 streets from TP.

Preflop raise bigger with your good hands. You'll still get callers. Then bet big with your TP/overpair/set whatever. You're even likely to get callers by potting it otf and turn, people will still call for their draws coz they wanna stack the big hand! Just remember your discipline and fold when the passive player suddenly becomes aggro (like your AA hand above)

I'd sit with enough to cover the big stack at the table (and sit to his left) but at least 100bb's or your could be leaving value on the table.

Keep good mental notes of what villain's are showing down and treat them accordingly. You should be able to make a killing, although you'll need to accept that these games will have somewhat higher variance coz fish will hit rivers

I don't think you should be results orientated here, I don't like the check on the turn at all. There are lots of hands besides KT that can still call. Tx,KQ,QJ,89,78 maybe even 6x if they are as bad as you describe. If you had a read on him nice check/fold but in general at least another bet is in order IMO.

edit: you could probably be a bit unbalanced and raise to 10 or even more pre. They aren't going to take note and even if they do they will probably still call the next time.

raise bigger pre, 5-7bb is fine in live games, you will get callers still. Dont check the turn above, bet again. fold if he raises you though,.

+1. Unless you know said opponent is only doing this w 2p+ i hate that check. You're getting called by all of his range.
You will crush live 1/2 with patience. Don't bluff, as you will get called down crazy light, which is also why you should vbet the **** out of your made hands. In my experience no one really adjusts to players styles at live 1/2, so you really just have to play your hands. If you find thinking players in games, just adjust accordingly. GL, and keep active on 2+2. You will get amazing advice from these awesome people. (even the trolls!)
