Re: Best Advice You've Received/Given?

Fish Fold

When they limp you raise. When they raise you re-raise. When they re-raise you shove.

Don't autopilot. Think through every decision.

Think in ranges, not specific hands.

Pay attention & listen to your opponent. His checks & bets are telling a story.

Call when confused. (maybe not good advice but I do)

Shove wide, call tight.

Play to win, not cash.

Play your opponent, not your cards.

Don't out level yourself, play 1 lvl above your opp.

Play your A game for as long as possible & then take a break once you come off it.

Be happy for the fish when they get it in crushed, suckout & win.

If they never won they would never play.

Lazy ppl complain.

Dont be results orientated. Think in the long term +EV plays, not short term variance.

Study, Study, Study

Be a student of the game & always work on improving it.

Play more poker.

Fold more than you raise, raise more than you call

Minimising your losses (by folding when you think you're behind) is as important as maximising your profits (by betting when you think you're ahead).

Re: Best Advice You've Received/Given?

Best advice I ever got: "Every hand I'm dealt I go through this thought process: 'Can I raise in this spot? If not, can I fold these cards? OK, then, I guess I have to call.'"

Re: Best Advice You've Received/Given?

Shouldn't it go raise > call > fold? Also even if a play is + EV it may not be optimal EV.

I think call should be last. I might even go fold > raise > call for beginners.

Re: Best Advice You've Received/Given?

Calling makes a lot of money though. =( I sort of am against the "raise or fold" mentality advocated towards beginners; it reduces tough spots, but makes poker a lot less dynamic and interesting.
