Don't give up your $275/wk job in order to play poker more.

Taking a 6% bad beat is going to happen to you every week if you play regularly. The purpose of bankroll management is to have a sufficient bankroll to not go bust when those things happen more frequently than usual for a concentrated period of time.

Perhaps.

Everybody should have 6 months expenses saved outside their poker bankroll. So the part that is possibly correct is the lack of need for 40BIs.

One doesn't need 40 BI's if it doesn't matter if you have a 10% chance of going bust in the next year. One doesn't need 40 buyins if one can rebuild one's roll from an outside income source. One might not need 40 BIs if the game one is playing has much less variance then a typical live 2/5 game. One might not need 40BIs if one is really crushing the game.

OTOH, a pro, who relies on his poker income to meet all his living expenses, and therefore cannot afford to go bust, makes a typical winrate from 2/5 with a style and game selection that gives typical live 2/5 variance, and has no outside source from which to replenish his roll, probably should have on the order of 100BI in his poker roll, plus 6 months living expenses outside it.

OP, there is no evidence you are a winning player at live 2/5. If we had a reliable winrate, a measure of the variance you had experienced and an idea of how willing you are to risk going bust within a year, we could possibly give you an idea of how much bankroll you need. If you are not a winning player, the only bankroll big enough to stop you from going bust is one that is bigger than the total of all the buyins you will pay.
