Re: Advice for very FIRST casino experience

Remember one oversize chip put in the pot is just a call unless you announce raise, have fun and good luck

Re: Advice for very FIRST casino experience

Don't think about being nervous too much. If you think about not being nervous, you might feel fine when you get there but as soon as you get those chips infront of you you'll reach for chips and notice your hands shaking like crazy. Just try to be relaxed.. maybe have some good music on or something. Remember you're not at the final table till you're at the final table. Its all about nerves.

Also if you get AA or flop a monster.. try to remain as calm as possible, imagine looking at yourself and seeing if you would be able to pick up any reads by your reaction. Just think what a tell that gives other players if you go to look down at your AA and suddenly get this monster grin on your face. AND BRING GLASSES. THICK. BIG. AVIATORS. people feel intimidated when looking into glasses, if you don't have those, they'll stare you down and your reaction will tell them everything.

I agree with this. One that I have noticed both in live loldonkaments and cash games is players grabbing their chips (even to just shuffle them) after looking at their cards. In my experience these people are > 90% likely to throw a bet out. It has saved me money on more than one occasion.

These are the big ones. Remember to have fun and don't be afraid to shove when you're getting short. Don't fall into the trap of treating it differently than you would an online tourney when it comes to your M. Just beware that you may need to adjust a little because people will call your all-in lighter (because they're bad and think that any two face cards or a weak ace is worth calling you because they're not thinking about what you have, they're only playing their cards).

Re: Advice for very FIRST casino experience

Man, thanks you guys.

I'm actually somewhat against sunglasses. Only because that's just not the sort player I want to be at the table: silent, stoic (well, maybe stoic), or robotic.

"Just have a good time" is great advice, especially when I have a mindset that this'll be "entertainment" money I'll be using. It's an amount I'm comfortable losing but more importantly I'm excited for the experience alone.

Your probably going to be showing many signs of being new to the live scene, exploit that when possible.

Don't splash the pot.

Yeah definitely announce your intentions and be wary of the one chip rule. When you are experienced you don't have to announce raise or call and so on, but at first it's best to be careful and just say call or raise in case you got the wrong chips.

Best advice I can offer: when in doubt seek clarification from the dealer. This goes for absolutely anything at the table.
