Hi,
so I've played a few pub poker tournaments (all the experience i really have) and have recently tried playing live cash games at my casino. I play $1/$3 games as thats the lowest there is at my casino, ive played a total of about $400 ($200 buy in on 2 separate occasions) i would really like some recomendations as to what i should be doing to improve my poker thus winning.

Some books aimed at this low stakes cash poker and/or videos would be really appreciated, also any general books, videos and tips would really be appreciated.

Thanks

Don't spend money on a bunch of books or videos.

I'd start off with buying one beginner level book. The owner of this website is a book seller, so clicking on the "2+2 Books" link in the top left corner book would be a courtesy. I'd then start reading the stickies on the Live Low Stakes No Limit Poker forum on 2+2. Click through the links.

That should get you started. If you have a question about how to play a specific hand, create a thread. Please note that one of the rules of that forum is that asking a general question of "how do I beat 1/3 live cash games" will be closed. After you read the stickies, you should understand why.

Considering your limited experience you're quite lucky to have made a profit. I can remember how horrendous I was when playing during breaks at school. Do you have the option to play for small stakes online so you can learn basic concepts? It would save you a ton of money compared to playing $1/$3 while learning.

Generally, bet/3bet slightly more often than normal, and fold to bets on the turn/river more often than normal. 1/3 live players tend to gravitate toward a more ABC style, so you can get them to give up if they didn't hit the flop with any sort of pair/draw. This isn't true for every 1/3 player, but it does fit the bill in most cases.

Be wary of draws though, 1/3 live players will chase all the way to the river sometimes for even large bets. It is a really good game for sharpening your flop reading, and out counting (for both you, and your opponent) skills.

There's plenty of free stuff out there (especially here), even exerts from books that you may want to read. Does your local library have any poker books?

Play tight, watch and learn at your casino. You will be a target, so I agree with betting a bit larger as a beginner when you hit a Flop to charge your opponents a bit more. At $200 starting stack you find yourself in spots you can't get out of so you need to make sure you are pretty strong when you play a hand past the Flop. GL
