Edward O. Thorp, the former MIT math professor who pioneered blackjack basic strategy and card counting, and who wrote the 1962 bestseller "Beat the Dealer," claims in a new book that Mob-owned casinos tried to kill him with poisoned coffee and by gluing down the gas pedal of his car.
