If you guys double your starting roll, how much do you generally tip? I normally start with 200 at a table and will tip way too much like prolly 20-40 if I'm doing well. I just throw 1's after good rolls for the donts and will generally throw a couple of don't comes so I rake in Chips when I run well. I def have had positive variance playing craps but I feel that tipping too much is longterm -ev obv

Yes, tipping is -EV, but so is playing craps.

Re: Tipping at the craps table

I wish the mods would infract no-content posters in OGG who post only to remind people that craps is -EV. Everyone knows this.

Craps is a game of small, but known and constant -EV. The EV of the game doesn't depend on the quality of the other players at the table, or how much sleep you had, or whether you are on tilt. If you're lucky, you can win more money faster than in any other game.

Poker is a game of variable EV; anybody who thinks it's always +EV, I'd like to play at your table.

Re: Tipping at the craps table

Ended up playing 2 sessions tonight and both winning from the donts. I know this is a small sample but literally last 10 times i've played, I've prolly lost 2 times and won 8. Such sick positive variance imo. Also prolly won like $150-200 total and tipped atleast $20-30.

So you're tipping between 10% and 20% of your win. Brilliant. I assume you also tip when you're losing -- or before you finish a losing session. You do see the problem here ... I hope.

so you are opposed to placing bets for the dealers as a tip? Cause that only pays them on a win, not a loss.

No -- it's just that anyone tipping that heavy hasn't got a chance. Even at 10% -- If you tip $10 on a $100 win, and tip $10 in the process of booking a $100 loss -- even on a 50/50 proposition you're coming out of the chute 40/60. That's a game you can't win.

Sheetwise, I agree with you totally. You prolly are the top poster in this subforum but yea I see long run, spewing winning sessions like this will hurt me in the long run. However I'm def blinded by the fact I win a majority of the time I play craps playing the donts.

Brag: I consider myself so good at craps sometimes because literally atleast 4-5 times playing the donts, I've emptied a table bc everyone is betting the pass. (I'm joking about being good, I know its a game of chance). I know sooner or later I will hit a run bad streak where I lose starting br quickly 2 times in a row.

Also I do sometimes bet for dealers but imo, I think its much better to just give them a dollar then bet say a two way yo bc the casino edge is so high + if I was a dealer, I'd rather want the money rather than have to hope for a certain roll to get a bet. From now on, I might just stop throwing 1s in after solid rolls and just tip $10-15 at the end of a session.

Finally I dont see why more people don't play the donts more often. I know the pass side has a higher payout generally but seriously, it rarely happens.

I just look at the next shooter and ask myself, "Does (s)he look lucky?" -- so I switch back and forth depending on the shooters aura. It also keeps the dealers confused If I lose, it's my ability to judge people that's at fault.

The difference between front and back is really negligible, but you will have bigger fluctuations on the front -- up and down. I generally don't lay odds when I play the back either, I just bet bigger.

Re: Tipping at the craps table

It's more polite to make a 2nd roll come bet on the unlucky shooters instead of don't-betting them, that way you make money when they PSO, and they don't get offended.

you should run a reverse lottery where tickets cost a million dollars and everyone except the loser wins $1.

I personally do the two hardways...when you tip while playing they're less strict with you.

Re: Tipping at the craps table

Any dealer I've seen likes bets for them, but are always happy about any tip, win, loose, or drop.

I only tip when I'm the shooter or I'm exiting the game coloring up or tossing my last chips to 'the boys'.
I place bets for the dealers usually on the hardways or line... and they give me more leeway with my dice set(hardway) and throw because they want me to hit for their tip.

Out of curiosity, when you aren't paying the dealers off, which dice sets do they not let you arrange? The one where you put both 3s on top making like a ^ symbol? Cause that's my favorite? What about the one where you put the 6's on top and make a long tunnel like this, :::::: ? Any information you could provide on dice sets that require tipping the dealers to get leeway would be appreciated.
