Re: Tipping at the craps table

What do you guys think of tipping the dealers on the hardways. I have been doing this if my point is a 4 6 8 or 10. I throw a small tip up there for them along w/a small bet for me. I always did this just because I didnt know how to tip the line. How do I use the line to tip? I am a $5 or $10 passline player. Would the dealers prefer a $1 tip w/odds on the line?

Re: Tipping at the craps table

I think the hardways is a more fun way to tip because you get to call it out. Tipping on the line is more low key. Just put $1 to the side of your pass line bet.

Ask them.

Re: Tipping at the craps table

I find that each dealer has their own preference, but in the end, they (should) appreciate all tips. I like low variance tipping, where there's a good chance they'll get it. $1 line bet, $1 place bets, $2 odds is pretty much the bulk of my tipping. If I'm up and they are doing their job very well, I'll throw in a two-way yo, or a two way hardaway.

Re: Tipping at the craps table

I spent a lot of time playing craps at the Aria and 99% of my tips under $5 were pushed back for a bet, so I would throw in $5 and say "for your hard work" and they would then place it on the winline and say "I'm with you on this one" or even throw it on a hardway

Whenever I gave a $25 or more it went straight into the box.

However I do remember when I played at the Bellagio for a couple of days, majority of my tips went straight into the box. If I threw out a red bird it went straight down, rather than the dealer wanting to play. FWIW I think the B dealers were a touch older (and old school) than the Aria dealers

Whats a lot to tip say a 5 hour session where you might win 1k?

To me tipping your typical pass-line bet once per hour is very much on the generous side. More than that just seems sloppy and a good deal less than that should still be overly acceptable, particularly as the size of your avg passline bet increases. JMO.

BTW, really like the winline terminology.

Re: Tipping at the craps table

4 hards for the dealers please 4 $.... next roll always a 7

So I always wait to get my 3 DC bets up with max odds

Yell 4 hards for the dealers and next roll is always a 7.

I should write a DC craps strategy book and give away this secret I'd be a millionaire

If you throw a quarter to the boys, and ask them what them want to do with it, they will invariably bet with you.

compared to the legions of players that don't tip at all, i would be surprised if a dealer ever thought a player was being cheap for putting a tip on pass line vs field just because he didn't also tip odds.

Ha, this is my experience too, which is why I irrationally stopped betting hardways for the dealers and put them on the line with me instead. I think this is better anyway because it gets paid more often, so it makes them happier.

A square pair on the bounce -- Ma and Pa -- for the boys ...
Puppy paws on the hop for the shooter.

If you are so afraid of hurt feelings and bad mojo for making a pass line toke bet without odds, just place the point (after the point is made, put a chip so that it straddles the thin yellow line at the rear of the pass line). $5 place-the-point on the occasional 4 or 10 point is always appreciated.

Re: Tipping at the craps table

So why are you taking -$ev gambles and why would the dealer prefer you to do a -$ev gamble for him rather than a full tip?

Re: Tipping at the craps table

this past weekend i was playing craps in A.C. & the dealers at Bally's really appreciated it when i put one to five dollars on the point for them

i used to just give them some chips when i was winning but putting the tip on the point seemed to make them much happier
