Tipping at the craps table

Do the dealers at the craps tables prefer when you put a tip down for them as a bet or would they rather just be handed the tip? (or do they not care either way?)

The times I've tried to give dealers money they tell me they'd rather I bet it for them. You can put it on the pass line next to your bet, or call a hard way for them.

Wow, why would a dealer suggest what you do with a tip?

I generally flat tip and don't gamble for the dealer. But it's really to the choice of the tipper.

i wouldnt make linebets for the dealers. some of them might feel youre being cheap not making an odds bet for them too. just make bets on the field every so often. typically if im playing passline/comeline and have a 4, 9, or T established as a point and roll an 11 then ill bet a $1 on the field for them.

Re: Tipping at the craps table

I put an extra chip kind of slanted off the top of an odds bet. Make sure it pays right (and you can do this for as little as a dollar on 4/10 and two bucks on 5/9) and it's the same long term as just straight tipping but puts them on the shooter's side. Just have it kind of slid off center and say "for you guys" or whatever. I've never had a place not allow me to go slightly over on the odds to tip.

Re: Tipping at the craps table

You can tip either when coloring out or from time to time during the game. During the game you can "place the point" (put a chip astride the pass line) in an appropriate amount, I usually place $5 on a 4 or 10 point although I have sometimes placed $6 on a 6 or 8. You can also throw in two chips and say "2 way yo" or "2 way hard eight" which means that one bet is yours and one is for the dealers. If the bet hits, the dealers' bet must come down, if you really want to be fancy you could say "2 way hard eight, player control" which would let you parlay both bets if it hits.

You know you are tipping enough when your winning come bets are handed down.

Actually this is not too far off the mark. If you tip well you might find that your losing come bet on a winner-7 come-out roll, which would otherwise result in the return of your odds and the loss of your flat bet, sometimes stays up.

The C&E bet on the craps table stands for "Casino Employee" when tipping, also known as the craps/eleven bet.

There are casinos, borgata in ac being one that will allow the dealers to give themselves 2 for 1 for each of the box numbers this is a huge benefit and when I'm tipping I make sure that I cover at least the 6 and 8 for the dealers.

Re: Tipping at the craps table

When I play, I go across the board for them but it really depends on the dealer and how you feel. If you're up, you can gamble it for them or just toss a chip after coloring up (if you do hopefully).

Re: Tipping at the craps table

Thanks for the replies, but I wasn't really asking for HOW to tip a dealer. I was just wondering if anyone knew whether dealers generally prefer having their tips placed as a bet for them or if they generally just prefer to be given a tip?
