Re: Thread about video poker

I need a math person.....I have a argument with someone

On a deuces wild machine (no progressive), if your dealt a wild royal flush with 1 deuce....do you keep the wild royal flush or throw the 1 deuce away??

what is the optimal strategy??

Re: Thread about video poker

If you have a gutshot draw:

You have 1 out to a natural royal, 3 outs to a wild royal, 8 outs to a flush, and 3 outs to a straight, out of 47 remaining cards.

(1/47)*a + (3/47)*1 + (8/47)*b + (3/47)*c > 1

where these variables represent the ratio of payouts to a Wild Royal.

a = naturalRoyalPayout:wildRoyalPayout.
b = FlushPayout:wildRoyalPayout.
c = StraightPayout:wildRoyalPayout.

If a + 8b + 3c > 44, then draw.

If you have an open-ended draw (KQJT2):

You have 1 out to a natural royal, 3 outs to a wild royal, 1 out to a straight flush, 7 outs to a flush, and 6 outs to a straight, out of 47 remaining cards.

(1/47)*a + (3/47)*1 + (1/47)*b + (7/47)*c + (6/47)*d > 1

where these variables represent the ratio of payouts to a Wild Royal.

a = naturalRoyalPayout:wildRoyalPayout.
b = straightFlushPayout:wildRoyalPayout.
c = FlushPayout:wildRoyalPayout.
d = StraightPayout:wildRoyalPayout.

If a + b + 7c + 6d > 44, then draw.

EDIT: I just filled in the numbers for a full pay machine (100.76%), and I only get 33.4 even with the straight flush draw. So the answer is never draw. But if you ARE on a progressive, you can use the 2 formulas above to compute optimal draw strategy.

Lattimer is right on the math.

Natural Royal Flush Draws on average never pay more than 100 credits for a 5 credit wager given the standard 4000 credit RF payout. I have yet to see a DW game that doesn't pay at least 100 credits for a Wild Royal and hope I never do.

I got this in Tunica last Sept. I think I waited 3 minutes before hitting the draw button because I wanted to take a chance at $200 vs. a meh $6.25. But I also knew that cost me ~$1.50 in EV, so I didn't do it. But $6.25 can easily be eaten away, and I ended up losing on that machine.

Re: Thread about video poker

I wouldn't automatically assume video poker machines in the Dominican Republic would deal like Class III machines. It's a good find if they do though.

Re: Thread about video poker

Went to Winstar tonight. Took a look at various machines, and dipped my toes in the water. Managed to have a decent run, though I probably mad a few mistakes and went to cash out at one point and was unable to - probably because I was in the middle of a hand. I'm a bonehead sometimes. But it was... interesting. Can't find anything about how much points my play would have earned me. Also, could they put the full pay machines any further from the poker room? I checked one of the bartops by the poker room - 7/5 JoB, ELL OH ELL!

Re: Thread about video poker

Finally got to play a 9/6 JOB machine. I was excited until I realized you had to play 10 credits. I figured what the hell, this just means I will win more. Well I didnt, in fact I blew through $100 in about 11 min. When I finished I realized I could have made it a $0.05 machine instead of $0.25. Owell lesson learned.

Re: Thread about video poker

You could make it nickels (for 10 credits?) and it was still a 9/6 paytable? What casino are you at? Sorry you apparently didn't win a hand at quarters (or you play really, really fast).

And hime, it's terribly standard in the Midwest for machines at the bar to suck. 6/5 Bonus > 7/5 JoB, fwiw.

I was at Bally's. I never looked at the paytable for the $0.05. I just assumed it would have been the same as the $0.25. Do they change the paytable for a different demon on the same machine?
I did get a full house 1 time so the 90 credits was nice but other than that it was horrible. I may have exaggerated 11 min and I was broke but it was pretty damn quick. It was well under an hour. I was going to try again but I was pretty dejected after losing a $100 so quickly when I played the ghost busters machine for almost an hour with $10.

Re: Thread about video poker

worst run i ever had at 9/6 JoB was losing 42 bets in 101 hands at $5/hand. wouldve been losing 44 bets in 100 hands but i accidentally played an extra hand and hit trips.
