Re: Prop bet

Considering Google Maps lists one-way as a 1 day, 21 hour trip, I'd say it's very possible. You could even stop at the LaBrea Tar Pits.

How much would you need to bet in order to do this? Would you risk 5k to win 10k (2-1)?

Re: Prop bet

It looks like pure stealing on the surface. Even as an endurance bet for one driver (I really can't believe it's a bet with more than one driver) it's usually stealing. There'd have to be other factors like the quality of the car and maybe stipulations as to what you can do with the car once the timer starts or the other guy has the ability to hire criminals to shoot rocket launchers at your moving vehicle and then cash your check or something. With just the information provided it sounds like a brag about how big a mark you somehow got access to.

I mean other than the "there could be a typhoon or something" angle it's stealing. The minimum you have to bet depends on the value of your time and the estimated expense of the trip. Also on your relationship with the other party but you can figure that part out.

I mean is this one of those things where he bets you this then you bet him he can't run a 12 minute mile even though he was a cross-country champion just a few years back or something and you both get to laugh and act baller? That's what I've come to expect from the internet generation of gambler.

You have three freakin' drivers there's no reason to stop other than car maintenance, which is real close to the only way you can lose if this "bet", and I use that term loosely, is as being represented.

Be careful, though; there can be many unforeseen pitfalls. I've seen problems. In addition to the rocket-launching criminals that aces mentions, you have to watch out for: Dom Deluise changing into his superhero costume; Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. dressing as priests; Jackie Chan going all kung-fu on your ass; hot babes in Lamborghinis tempting you; a crazy rich oil-sheik; oh, and an orangutan.

Re: Prop bet

way back when I sold cars, I had a customer that needed a car for a wedding and the only one in the country was in green bay. I drove a F250 hauling a car on a car trailer from Pittsburgh to Green Bay and back with the only stop being at the car dealership and gas/food. It took me a tad over 25 hours. I was completely delirious for the last 2 hours of the trip but I made it safe. With at least 1 other driver this would be cake. This "bet" would only get action at 500-1 and that would be a tough sell.

pittsburgh to green bay and back = 1328 miles, 22 hours
nyc to la = 2777 miles, 45 hours

A real prop bet would be

NYC to LA round trip with only $50 to your name, no car, and no advanced planning (i.e. you arrange transport via craigslist) in 5 days

Now that's a real prop bet.

I guess I should take the bet then. I just wasn't sure if I was missing something.
