I degened over this last week and have bought a total of 20, $10 scratch off lottery tickets, from various places and days / times. No more than 1 ticket at a time.
I haven't won even a $10 break even on a single ticket, and according to the posted odds on the back of them it's 1 in 3 of winning.
My uncle won 50k on a scratcher so they most certainly aren't rigged. I had a friend who ran pretty +EV on scratchers too but I think a majority of people lose, lose and lose more.
If you are buying a ticket from different places then it's highly possible.
Typically the odds are for the overall amount of tickets printed, however some packs have more winners than others. If you must play them, buy them from the same pack, you'll win something sooner or later.

After this thread I bought a few scratchers... 3 x 30's... One paid $1000 and the two others were a ticket....
I had 5 losers in a row that was my worst run....
I started getting worried that the guys behind the counter were doing something with these tickets.. they would make comments like "are you sure you want this one it's number 004" etc... Now I feel more comfortable buying them from a machine... I'd like to buy an entire roll if possible but where to find out what quantities are in a roll.
