Poker Stars Risk Free Blackjack: which one? Poker Stars Risk Free Blackjack: which one?

Pokerstars are doing a risk free $10 promotion on their casino games.

I will be playing Blackjack using basic strategy to minimize their edge but which variation should I choose to play?

The versions allowing 'surrender' seem to me the best but then I am no blackjack player.

Advice needed. Many thanks.

http://wizardofodds.com/games/blackjack/calculator/

That covers most things that tend to be offered in a 21 game. How the risk free chips work could also affect the best play.

Make sure you pick the right variation. It could literally cost you pennies if you screw up.

I used to own Snyder's Blackbelt in Blackjack but it is not possible to get a non CSM BJ game at the casinos in my hometown here in the UK so I don't play BJ but there is no denying the beauty of the game.

I intend to master basic strategy then choose the best variant offered and take my shot.

The money means little but I am OCD about these things.

You can just have a strategy card in front of you for your mastering of basic strategy purposes.

I have never played online BJ before. Is it not time dependent like poker is? It must not be. If that is a case I will google one such card and have it up on the screen Now all I have to do is make the calculations with the calculator and decide which one of PS many versions of BJ gives me the best chance.

Timer depends on the software/format but even if it is timed every basic strategy blackjack decision for a particular game can basically fit on a 3X5 index card with not too difficult to read print. You should be fine without having to memorize anything given your circumstances.

I won ~$10 playing European blackjack betting $1 units.

Four natural blackjacks (as well as doubling 9 twice vs a dealer 6 and losing both times!) in about 30 minutes of play.

I had already played an 8 hour poker session and was playing tired so I was more than happy enough to book this win.

Two troubling spots:

1. I took insurance with a 7 vs a dealer ace. I felling this must be wrong!

2. I had a natural 21 and took insurance against a dealer ace. Wrong?

There is no denying BJ is a beautiful game but like I said in the OP nothing but CSM games in provincial UK casinos.

Many thanks again to OmahaFanatical4 and WOAT1Time!

#1 and #2, Insurance is always* negative expectation without a count. Wrong or right is a little more open ended but it basically always rates to cost you expectation as presented.

Thanks for this. I was using the European Blackjack basic strategy card for the session. It (unlike other the Wizard of Odds cards) did not have what you just told me on it.

Your help has been inestimable.

BJ really is a great game. I think I am going to get BS done pat. There must be some bonus whoring or other comp possibilities online for me to take advantage of.

Only if you have a time machine.

Eh, i wouldn't go that far. There are still some good spots and getting basic strategy down pat isn't exactly climbing Mount Everest. OP seems to enjoy the game and doesn't appear to be a gambling addict. If that's true worst case scenario it rates to be much cheaper than say, taking up golf.
