Never played craps, but I want to learn Never played craps, but I want to learn

Wizardofodds YouTube channel has a five part series on how to play. Solid tutorial.

Craps is a blast. It's a great game to play with a few buddies. I've lost $100 in less than 5 minutes, but I've had a magical run where I made almost $1,400 in about 40 minutes (and could have made way more if I knew what I was doing). Start slow, learn the table etiquette and lingo, and don't be afraid to ask the dealers for help. Most of them are willing to teach you the nuances of the game.

It looks like a lot of the stuff pays between 1 and 2-1. Basically, what bets are people usually making when they make huge scores at craps? I know it varies, but there's no way it's usually those 30 times first roll bets
is pressing your bets the answer here?

You make huge scores at craps by 1) taking odds 2) pressing bets when you win. Most craps players do neither.

when pressing bets, would you take half of the profit of a hit and press that or press all and hope for the big win?

Although they are losing bets it's fun to also bet on 6,8, 5,9, and 4,10. Sometimes when you're on a roll and you bet the board (I forget the lingo, it's been a while) you can really max your return. Of course if a 7 gets rolled you lose a lot!

Most craps players take odds. In fact almost all do. Not all take max odds, but it's rare to see people only bet pass line.

The bet is "across", minus the point. For example,
if the point is 6, you can bet 52 across.

I think most do at least one.

Definitely most do, under max odds.

If you want to start learning how to play, you should keep in mind that it will be less fun to play. I wanted to learn how to play too but I don't think I'm ready yet, so I'm staying with slots for now lol. But I did find some nice craps strategy posts for you, so enjoy

The sense that I get of what Donk means is that if you "learn how to play", you won't be making fire bets, hop bets, hard ways, etc. In other words you aren't making the higher risk, more exciting, more fun bets. Or maybe not.

In the end, craps is a losing game, but it can be a lot of fun at the right table. You are going to lose, so why not lose it a bit faster and have more fun?

Personally, I'm a conservative player, and a lot of my fun is in the atmosphere and other players. I tend to stick to pass (with or without odds). If I'm up a bit, I may throw out a hard way or place bet; occasionally I'll put out a bet for the dealers.

It's your entertainment dollar; do what you want with it.

Whatever you do, try to be pleasant for the dealer- I.e. Setting your bets in the come, making all your bets at once, be loud and let them know exactly what you want, and make sure you get your bets in while the dice are in the middle. If you do these, you'll have enjoyable dealers and a box to deal with!
