Craps and Comps
 

I've read that if you play craps with optimal strategy (pass line bet with max odds and come bets with max odds) that this may actually be +EV if you get comps out of it. According to the wizardofodds.com, the house edge is 0.374% with 3,4,5X odds. Is it possible to overcome this with comps?

This seems like it wouldn't be that hard to figure out if you knew how different casinos calculated comp points. Is it based on what stakes you are playing, or do they actually pay attention to what you are betting?

no. you get comped up to 40% of your theoretical loss. your theoretical loss remains the same whether you make an odds wager or not.

Theoretical loses? Wouldn't that depend on what you're betting on and how much you're betting? Do they somehow keep track of this?

from what I've experienced, you get rated based on your average line bet.

of course, you get comped an amount of your theoretical loss, which was mentioned earlier in this thread to be up to 40% of your theoretical loss of your typical line bet.

players should be rated based on the actual bets they make. for example, the craps bets should be separated by tiers. for example, a very basic and simple tier system might define line bets and come/don't come bets at tier one, field bets and place/buy bets as tier two, and prop/hardway action as tier three. players would get rated differently based on the amount AND the location of their bets.

maybe some places do this, but i know several that do not.

i've also spoken to several floors who will rate a guy as having an average bet of $0 (or slightly more) if he bets an equal amount on the pass and the don't pass. i disagree with this as well, since this player can never will and will occasionally lose. 1/36 or 2.78% of the time you lose half of your total wager. this guy is just giving the house money at no risk to the casino (albeit at a slower rate than others).

anyway...enough of my opinion of rating dice players.

You need to get rated as having an average bet much larger than your true average bet. There are techniques that can be used for this. Read Comp City and you'll be off to a good start.

This is much easier to do at a game like blackjack than craps, and it gets even easier if you include marketing offers and comps.

It gets even harder if the craps table has one of those newish touch screens that are used to track bets.

The house edge on the pass line bet is more like 1.4%, so they will give you maybe 0.5% of your pass line bet. They don't track / care about odds.
