Sorry for bumping this but I had to register here just for this question since I didn't see the answer.

The house edge is created entirely by the fact that the player busts before the dealer. Ergo, if you bust the dealer gets your money even if he would have or does bust.

No. First of all, Peeig's premise is wrong. The correct answer has already been given -- posts #23, #32, #36, and #39. All these answers are approximately correct, depending on how you view pushes and considering there is a little wiggle room for strategic efficiency.

I am only explaining the house edge, nothing more.
The house edge is created by the ability of the dealer to collect on player busts while still busting, nothing more.

House edge also comes from the fact that the dealer is sober but the players aren't.

That's one of the house advantages -- the player also has advantages. They both have disadvantages. The house edge is determined by a combination of all.

I played 6 hands, got 20 or 21 every time, and didn't win a hand. Probably harder than winning 10 in a row.

1) I don't bust
2) Dealer doesn't bust
3) get 20 or 21
4) watch dealer get 21, 20, 21, 21, 21, 20.
5) Vow to quit bj forever
6) Start playing craps.

That's true but if that were the only factor then the house edge would be about 8% (if all payoffs were even money and player followed the same hit/stand rules as the dealer).

I see I'm the slow pony.

Well I just won five $1 hands in a row and lost five $5 hands in a row, so technically I lost 25 hands in a row.

Bonus: I was playing with a $20 roll
