Biased Roulette Wheels

Hey was wondering if anyone knows more than the average bear about biased roulette wheels. I watched a documentary about it and have started recording numbers from 2 tables at the casino I play poker.

If you have no clue what a biased roulette wheel is: A wheel that has a mis function or is "damaged" and makes more number more probable to hit than other therefore giving you an advantage rather than the house.

In conclusion I like money and as 50 cent once said, get rich or die trying.

Thanks

Write a book about alien abductions or how to make money by flipping real estate -- either activity will be far more profitable than clocking a roulette wheel.

OTOH -- you could make a documentary about clocking the wheel -- although, as you say, that's been done before.

The frequency of biased wheels is extremely low, one in a hundred if you just select random wheels. You can do better if you know something about the causes of wheel bias, but you are still going to be waiting around a long time. For this reason, there isn't that much interest in the subject in the AP community.

That said, finding a strongly biased wheel is extremely profitable. When you do find one, you can make as much in a night as you could in months at the poker or blackjack tables. It is essential to know how to exploit such a situation most effectively with your betting-wagering on a single number with a strong bias is less profitable than wagering on a section of numbers which individually have a weaker bias.

Re: Biased Roulette Wheels

Thanks GBV I have around 500 numbers for 2 tables so far and one of them looks more biased than the other, so hopefully the trend continues after 3000 spins recorded.

There was a big long thread on this not more than a few months ago.

500 numbers means each number has only come up 10 or 15 times.

Re: Biased Roulette Wheels

Most casinos have an electronic display of the previous numbers to come up You have your 300 spins, but they have the data of every spin from every day and no doubt have some sort of computer software that will flag up any irregular patterns.

I have seen on a couple occasions pit bosses checking wheels with a spirit level before opening the table and doing a few other tests, so i think they are pretty wise to the possibilities.

IMO dont waste your time.

But I want all the mannies!! (KJB ascent)

Got close to 1000 winning numbers now for 2 wheels so need to get it all in order then see how its looking, the edge would only be 5% on a good wheel. It kinda like the counting cards of roulette. I do agree it seems like a waste of time and casinos are smart ect but just want to beat the house one time!

How do you intend to evaluate your results to see if there actually is a bias?

The great thing about actual statistical testing is you can't finesse the sample size requirements. Which is one reason it won't get used in most of these cases.

Re: Biased Roulette Wheels

Not gonna lie I am taking statistics right now and its a grind, but I am just looking for winning numbers that are more probable than others.

So after I have a big enough data sample I will be able to see that certain number are winning more than others, and that is what determines the bias dose it not?

"More probable."

"Big Enough."

Define those terms and you'll go far.

The problem with that idea is that no matter what sample size you have not every number is going to come up exactly the same number of times, even with a fair wheel. Some are just going to come up more. But that does not mean that they will come up more often in the next set of 1000 (or whatever) spins. It just means that they came up more that one time. What you want to see is them coming up more often than they would in a random situation with a fair wheel, and then validate it by then re-doing it and seeing if the same thing occurs (which it most likely won't, but that is why you'd want to test it before putting money down).
