Best strategy for Craps?
Whenever I play craps I bet on the dont pass. If a 5,9 comes out I put odds on it,.. if 4 or 10 comes out ill play the hard 4 and hard 10 to limit the rolls I can loose to.. 6 and 8 I dont do much with
any thoughts?

As with any -EV game, the best strategy is don't play (I have to admit I don't always follow that advice).
If you do play, and think the entertainment you get is worth your losses (and you will lose over the long haul), the most important thing is to stick with the bets with the lowest house edge. In craps, that would be odds, don't pass, don't come, pass, come and place bets on 6 and 8.
Using a high edge bet to hedge a low edge bet for which you are the favorite, as you are doing by betting the hard 4 and 10 to hedge a don't with a point of 4 or 10 is really dumb, as is the more common use of any craps or horn bets on the come-out roll. The stickman pushes these bets for a reason, and it's not to help the players.

Re: Best strategy for Craps?
Met a fellow in Vegas over the weekend that introduced/explained to me the 6/8 system.. .Not very sexy, but basic enough to follow nad still win a little bit of money with a good shooter..
Bet 6/8 , no Pass/Odds unless throwing, and have the ability to buy a point if it's coming out a bit or you have a "Feeling" (although, said feelings are bull ****, which made me laugh as I through 10 down on hard 8 and bing! due to a feeling.. haha.) Really, just a nice way to sustain small wins/losses I guess, as I made a small amount off of this system... Meh.

The first part, the DP with laying odds on 5 and 9, costs (on the average) 1.4% of your DP bet and 0% of your odds bet (assuming full odds at a typical Las Vegas casino offering 3x/4x/5x odds) for a total cost of 0.27% on 5 and 9. It's one of the least expensive way to play craps and it's as good of a strategy as any other. Buying the 4 or 10, at a cost of about 1.7%, would be a far better hedge bet than a hardway bet on 4 or 10, which will cost you 11.1% of your bet.

Play the pass line, it's the same as the don't pass and you can have fun at the same time as everyone else.

why do u think its not fun to play the dont pass? i enjoy being the root of all evil at the table, while people give me glaring, evil looks every time someone craps out and i collect, and the pathetic yet hilarious act of fist pumping while staring me down when the shooter hits the point.....like i give a poop u fish, im there to enjoy my time and drink some beer, not get in a confrontation, doesnt mean i have to be on the same side as everyone else tho.
also, dont hedge on the 4s and 10s, you have the best of it on the dont pass, dont give up your edge
and dont be afraid of the 6s and 8s, they pay the best while risking the least, u are worried cuz "oh my gosh the 6 and 8 come up so often!!" but dude....the 7 comes up MORE
now go get em kid

I love having a don't bettor at my table, especially when I'm shooting, so I can (sometimes) felt the mutha. Especially I love it when Mr. Don't is shooting from the DP so when he makes a point I can scream, YAY SHOOTER. One time in AC it was just me and a DP bettor, he had maybe $3K in a rubber band. Later that night I offered to buy his empty rubber band.

Re: Best strategy for Craps?
lmao @ YAY SHOOTER.
When I play craps I load up on come bets and odds. You will either lose all your money very quickly or win a lot of money very quickly. (So set your limit... and know when you had your fun )
I never liked the idea of grinding a -EV game... just get your little gamble in, if you hit a heater you DO GREAT. If you don't, well you just paid the stupid tax, now hit a strip club

Re: Best strategy for Craps?
I don't get the hate for don't bettors. It's not like they make their money straight from you. The house pays them just like the house pays you. I've played the don't when I was shooting. It's just a bet. Get a grip/life.
