All farmers markets should do this. A separate stall selling recipe portions from stuff around the market. As the seller you would have to be quick on your toes to deal with stuff selling out and so on. Fun challenge. I think it would definitely boost overall sales at a market. At your average retail store not so much because people aren't there with the mindset to try new things.

Could well imagine Expedia having another tab "Ideas" alongside "Flights" "Hotels" "Cruises" etc.

As a user Id be looking for well written reviews from similar people to me.

Maybe you could aggregate travel blogs and make them richer somehow. Give people some ideas on destination and let them browse a map. Maybe you see the whole route someone took and can clickthru to the blog entry.

just to give a little more info on what my buddy said he was looking for. you'd enter in your starting location and say, I want to drive, I have 3 days total, I don't want to go to X and Y, I want to be able to stay in Z kind of hotel. Now give me a few ideas of where I can go and where I'd be staying.

Also I think it would be really cool if someone would take a full virtual reality setup into the worst slums and places in the world. Capture life there - so people in cushy places like where most of us live would get a visceral sense of what it's really like to walk around in say a refugee camp in Lebanon full of Syrians who have fled ISIS. Or a Liberian slum.

Or this place. The photos and this story really had a deep impact on me. Imagine a fully immersive virtual reality experience.
WeFuel is the latest app to deliver gas to your parked car

You guys might want to jump on some of my other ideas itt while there's still time:

1) Let me pay $10/month or whatever for a package that includes the WSJ, NYT, LAT, WaPo, etc. I don't want to register and have to worry about cancelling and annoying spam emails from all those sites. Smaller papers would actually pay to be included in the package. Sports package, investing, etc. can also work.

2) A tamaguchi-like app for weight loss. If you don't enter your calories you have to watch it slowly starve to death. If you eat too much it gets fat and miserable. If you exercise and eat right it gets healthy and loves you. Also you can share with others so you see their avatars and they see yours.

3) Hipster mini-golf. Buy a bunch of old rocket ships and 50s Jetson props. Call it Astro-Golf. Other themes are also ok. Scary clowns would be a good one. Have good beer and stupid hipster **** like chicken and waffle skewers (yes those are a thing). But also world-class old-school burgers (gf and I came up with this idea on a road trip - actually got in a fight over whether or not the burgers could have arugula in them. NO!). And it must have an old school Icee/Slushee/Koolee machine that servers alcoholic Slushees. Neighborhood is critical.

Lol there are some great ideas in there!

I have an idea, something I've been thinking about for a while now...

A website that allows people to give away free goods and services solely for what they will get back in return. I'm not talking about trading, I'm talking about a site where generosity is rewarded by the same people who are being generous. The more generous you are, the more stuff you get back.

A simple database of everyone's contributions and requests would serve. There would have to be something that dissuades trading, perhaps a trading score of sorts which can be added to the persons overall 'rating'.

I honestly am starting to think that this sort of thing could well replace money and trade all together... If that does happen it could well end war, famine, prostitution. We'd rarely have to work. Could work in whichever field we personally think is most valuable. Businesses would still continue, it wouldn't be every man for himself, it's just that everything would be free. People would be competing to give you stuff for free.

Society would be much more efficient if you could just trim every hedge that needed doing in one street. The food provided by farms would first go to the locals, because that'd be the easiest people to give it away to. The best teachers would get given the best equipment. The best game developers would get all the best artists. The worst people at everything would get the least of everything and what can only be described as evil professions will not get rewarded.

Somebody should make that site! Let them keep their money, we'll just play something else.

I don't like the tamagotchi starving when not entering calories and getting fat if you enter too many.

Gives user incentives to "forget" entering calories now and then to keep their (fatter getting) avatar slim.

In a similar vein I thought about a mobile game / app for runners which would be a simulation / multiplier of their actual running.

Your avatar is a newish running athlete, competing in local events. To compete in let's say a virtual 10k race, you need to run 1km in real life.

You can train your avatar (get more virtual km per real km ran) and spend earned money for access to bigger events blabla the rest is pretty straightforward.

hey guys so i had an idea to make a website called bitcoinintocash - the idea would be to accept bitcoin in exchange for visa gift cards. it would be aimed at people who do not want their bitcoin withdrawals to be tracked by the govt.

is this a viable idea?

how hard would it be to get something like this started?

Very hard, because Visa are not in the business of facilitating services for people who "do not want to be tracked by the government".

Thus, you would need an undercover (read: illegal) way of obtaining those gift cards.

Obviously we can tweak the algorithm. But the key would be eating the right amounts of healthy food throughout the day. A missed day would be bad no matter what. A day w/o food and your tamagotchi would have a cortisol spike. So he might get all stressed out and start barking at you or get in a fight with your friend's tamagotchi.

Yeah I mean, I like it. I want to start a new project anyway, might actually steal this

I could even add running/exercise tracking, too.

I'll be glad to work on the programming and UX. I just don't know **** about graphics - which is the entire key to this app.

Meh, the tep thing is "just" a fitness tracker, doesn't work for food.

I was thinking about not doing a full blown calorie counter ala MyFitnessPal anyway, because weighing stuff IRL and punching in decimals isn't very game-y and people who enjoy this can just use a real app for that, right?

Maybe something more basic, where you roughly enter the food you've had that day ("big pizza", "salmon salad") and the monster reacts to it.

Basically I like the part where your analogue actions influence a digital avatar and the whole feedback loop thing. Maybe instead of feeding a cute tamagotchi we could attack the nasty fat blob by eating right etc, lol.
