So not everyone had the same advantages. Bill Gates was a product of his environment, obviously the guy was ruthless as hell and allowed him to stay around, but its hard to argue that his initial success came from factors of luck.
This is like saying...
The guy who laid 500 beautiful women...
Was "lucky" or just "handsome" or whatever.

In reality...
The successful guy charmed these women...
And used advanced social skills to be attractive...
And scored one at a time... over and over.

Business is similar to that.

You make 100s of CREATIVE decisions every year...
Each of them quite distinctive....
And after the cumulative effect of 1000 decisions...
After 5-10 years you have a successful business.

Bill Gates made countless brilliant decisions...
And if put back at Square One and age 20...
Would become a zillionaire all over again.

I know a billionaire personally...
These guys are brilliant and unstoppable.

And if Mr. Gates happened to read your post...
He would conclude that you have never run a business.

Wasnt he born brilliant? AKA hes lucky to be born brilliant?
Nothing to do with dedication/motivation here imo.

Even Bill Gates himself would tell you he was lucky to be where he was at the right time.

He might have been successful in other ventures, but it's highly unlikely he'd be as successful.

If you're lucky, and you're very ambitious, intelligent, and work as hard as hell, do you think you can become another Bill Gate? I guess it's possible that it can happen, but highly unlikely.

If you're lucky, but you're lazy as hell, do you think you can become another Bill Gate? Impossible.

It a difference between rich, happy and financial freedom.

Rich people got 90% money from there family that was rich also..to be a new rich one you need a good idea at the right time...plenty work and a bit of luck.

Financial freedom is much easier if you dont expect too much. A friend just early retired from 1300 / month...a bit to less for germany but he move to thailand and feel nice.

Happiness you cant buy..but here and there money helps

If you are happy with what you have, what do you need to achieve? Conspicuous consumption seems only an attempt to fill an un-fillable void.

It is because almost everyone who claims to be happy with what they have are full of ****. They are either rationalizing because they have little hope of ever having more or they have no idea what they are missing. While people who are both aware of the options and happy without them do exist they are extremely rare.

There are plenty of people who are "happy" who don't know what they are missing. I think you wouldn't be happy because the things that make you happy aren't the same that would make another person happy.

I know plenty of guys who couldn't be happier wearing free t-shirts 7/7 days of the week. I know that wouldn't make me content.

I wear TShirts 7/7.

It's great. I don't even have to change in the morning unless I take a shower or go to the gym.

also, i am also going to post this question again: what field would adolf hitler have been successful in, other than politics? or genghis khan, do you think he would make a good business man nowadays? your skills have to fit the environment you are born into. and no, i dont think warren buffett would likely be a gang leader in lagos if he had been born in the slums there. not getting the right things to eat and a bad social environment will seriously threaten your development, your health and even your iq.
most attitudes are derived from your environment, parents, teachers, tv, comrades etc, someone born into an environment of lazy people will very likely be lazy also.
