Re: What do you pay for rent?

$875 for a large 1 bedroom + garage in Chicago. I have to pay electric and gas, but I get free laundry. 4th apartment I've had in the city and my favorite so far.

Re: What do you pay for rent?

I was paying around $900 for a small room in a house that I shared with 3 others in London, UK. (i.e. $3600/month for a 4 bedroom) with 1 shower and crappy fixtures and no utilities. Location was good though - "N1" postal code which means roughly 1.5 miles from Oxford street. And we even had a back garden to BBQ in

Now I pay around $2200 a month for a 3 bedroom 2000sq ft. with a decent yard near(ish) Seattle. (EDIT: mortgage, not rent).

Chelsea in London or Chelsea in NY? (neither would surprise me in terms of cost).

$845 for a studio apartment (utilities not included) in the "center of the universe." Google map it. It's a fun neighborhood.

Re: What do you pay for rent?

$825 (of $1600 total) for the master in a 2BR, 2BA converted loft condo in Atlanta, right in the Old Fourth Ward.

That also covers all gas, water, sewage and basic cable/internet. We pay for cable upgrades (HD, HBO, Sports Package) and electricity.

Not to derail the thread, but what do you guys think is an acceptable percentage of your monthly income to put towards rent? Does your answer change if the payment is towards a mortgage instead of rent?
Rent -> 1/3 or less ideally.
Mortgage -> Doesn't matter imo (as long as you can still get whatever quality of life u want and not necessarily have a savings)

I pay $2100/month for a 450 sq ft apt in NYC. Annual rent ($25,200) would be ~10% of my pre-tax income. Previously had a bigger apt (600 sq ft) in the East Village for $2250/month, but the LL bought out my lease.
