Agreed. NLC2: This is a proof of stake coin that can no longer be mined and will eventually be used worldwide for fantasy sports and its quite a steal right now at .01!

Its gonna give access to people around the world who can't play on DraftKings/FD. Be good to hold this before the football season starts, potential big returns.

Also, I like STEEM. Potential to be the next big social media platform... already people making money just posting and upvoting useful content. LBRY credits has good potential to be a better type of BitTorrent. And, XCPY the platform for making digital tokens useful for online games/apps. Finally, something to disrupt that annoying pay-for-gems model where you get no tangible assets in return.

Those are my picks for recreational altcoins

More content post-

I've read the last handful of pages and it seems like there's no decent exchanges. The two that have been mentioned the most from what I've seen are polo and bittrex, but a simple google search (And reading this thread) have shown issue after issue. I'm not looking to drop a ton of money, but I do think a bunch of these (maybe not all) are about to crash and burn and I'd like to try to short them. Any ideas where?

Also, this thread and the others seem like a wealth of knowledge in many respects so thanks to all of those posting

(re-post)
Notes on the main BTC exchanges for US/Canada residents:

1.Coinbase/Gdax (San Fran)-for frequent trading in USD/BTC use the GDAX part of Coinbase rather than the Coinbase wallets to save fees; Coinbase has easy bank acct funding amd paypal withdrawal but at a higher fee than others
2.Kraken (San Fran) -great for low fee trading among USD/many coins;Canadians also seem to like it; USD deposit/withdrawal available but slower, less convenient
3.Poloniex (SF/Montana?)-does not trade or fund in USD so inconvenient, but is highly used
4.Gemini (NY)-reliable underused exchange owned by billionaire Winklevoss twins, decent reviews, has USD funding.
5.Cex.io (UK)-nice for small credit card btc exchanges
6.Bittrex (Las vegas)-good for special coins trading;no USD
7.QuadrigaCX (vancouver) more for Canadians.

No exchange is 100% safe and none are always problem free. I currently hold coins on several exchanges. Deposit/withdraw, buy/sell at your own risk. Corrections/additions are welcome.

Good post, I'd add to avoid exchanges like Nova and Yobit unless you are okay with extremely high risk, or are using them for short term buys/sells. I would not keep any coins on either site for the long term, maybe even more than like a week or so. But some coins you do need to buy them there, or the price is lower there than otherwise so you can risk it if you want.

I also like Coinexchange.io, there are some scammy coins there for sure but also some cheap coins that you can't find elsewhere with promising futures if you know how to sift out the scams from the legit projects

why do you think an uncapped project will be an easy 2-3x?

I am really worried about the uncapped nature of the project and the news articles about the billionaire that is investing in it. Something is suspicious about that.

I am not sure what to do.

Once they get the loose hands off the train, whales then initiate the wash trading powered pump and dumps.

For capped projects, they just skip the first part or do it faster.

Now as for the project itself. Tezos is going to have a few hundred million in the bank as well as the perfect narrative (Ethereum competitor but does it better). Whether that is actually true doesn't matter when it comes to the PR/hype/fomo that will appear.

It's ICO is coming up, apparently.

Tezos mainly seen as a quick flip or are some of you ICO'ers planning to HODL?

Also, is Eth that horrible to purchase Tezos as I've read? As in, if I had to pay fees to convert Eth to Btc would I be doing myself a favor vs just shipping Eth?

Hey man, if you disagree, at least elaborate why. This is a discussion forum and we're all here to learn.

I don't think what I said is untrue. Wash trading PnD is pretty much how many of the coins in the current top 20 got to their market caps.

I'm mostly seeing it as an opportunity for a quick flip. Long term, I'm very bearish on any system that is based on PoS (Ethereum included).

Tezos tokens should be on exchanges in 4-6 months after ICO ends. That's plenty of time for some good PR and FOMO to buid up (especially with all the negative feedback of late which will discourage some of the smaller players from investing). There's a good chance they launch at a 1-2 billion initial market cap.

Using ETH is likely fine, but since the team is selling funds during the ICO, there may be heavier slippage with ETH than BTC, although I'm not sure what price you get locked in at so that might be worth an ask on their subreddit. Also, I recommend to not believe too much of what the people on Ethtrader subreddit say. They're generally on the fishier side of things.

So you think tezos, and uncapped ICO, is going to launch as a 4-10x?

I think 2-3x is a pretty reasonable outcome if the time between ICO ending and tokens being launched on exchanges is at least a few months, as that will give the team some time to get good PR out.

fair enough, I think the most similar launch recently was Bancor that launched near 1:1 but there wasn't much time before ICO end and token release, I guess we'll see

Yup, the time between ICO and token release is a huge factor.

Note that Bancor can't be wash traded (PnD'ed) up on exchanges because their smart contract automated market maker will enable easy arbitrage. This is actually one of the use cases of Bancor, in that it enables true price discovery to some extent.

Hey guys, what is the general consensus opinion on the best coins after bitcoin? It seems like ETH and litecoin are what people mention that is very good. Is this true?

Also, does anyone have opinion of coins like dash, zcash and waves? Some people mentioned how litecoin is useless etc.

Also this might be silly but is there really much risk on investing on some coin that is very cheap that shows signs of price increase etc? Because if a coin is $10, sure it could sink all the way down. But if it goes up, it can easily double it or more etc.

Bitcoin isn't the best at anything except marketcap. Litecoin is a less useful version of bitcoin. The absolute price of any coin means very little.

I looked at Gulden NLG and it has a cool iban payment system worked in which they are accepting at places like subway over there. They got a POW2 system in the works where witnesses will get 20% and miners 80%. Any thoughts on the euro market?

So you dont think litecoin would boom really big then? People seem to have litecoin as the 3rd coin and they list prices of btc, eth and litecoin.
